Whole grains and fruits have completely different nutrients and thus are good for the body for different reasons. You can't really say one is "better" than the other because of this. In order to function at full potential, our bodies should get both a wide variety of fruits and plenty of whole grains. Try to get the daily recommendation of each.

Few women need more than 1800 calories per day, so you can eliminate 2 slices of bread from the recommended guidelines. Don't be fooled by "wheat" or even "whole wheat"; if it doesn't say "whole GRAIN wheat" (or any other grain), you won't get much nutritional value from the bread.

Whole grains are better than refined grains but people can live without them. Fruits and vegetables are better. Fruits are the best foods. Have you ever heard of people only eating grains and nothing else? No.
There are thousands of fruitarians in the US who eat only fruit. See site below on who says that fruit are best and you should eat mostly fruit. Fruits are loaded with antioxidants and you hear fruit things about not wheat but grapes (resveratrol), strawberries, blueberries, pomegranates and cranberries.

Whole grains. Wheat bread and brown rice is great for you. You can get Sara Lee whole wheat bread with only 9 carbs if you want to eat to get the best of both sides

Both are excellent. They both have higher fiber contents so you'll feel full sooner, and they both have nutritional benefits that outweigh their calorie content. It all depends on the fruit or grain.
