Say I am at a barbeque at a friends and I am on the front porch drinking a beer. Because I do not look old enough a cop asks to see my id to see if I am. My question is do I have to show ID? Or because he can't prove I broke a law I do not have to show my ID, is that how it works?

If you are doing something that requires ID for any reason (proof of age would be a reason), be prepared to show it upon request.

The policeman is doing his job - he sees someone drinking a beer in public - he obviously doesn't think that the person is of age - he asks for an ID card. What's the big deal? Show him your ID - in most places that's the law.

If you want to continue to drink in public then yes you have to show the policeman ID. What's the big deal? You just like to give cops a hard time???

If a cop asks you for ID, you are required to show it. The cop would have probable cause to ask for it. He thinks you're not old enough. If you are, no problem. If not, you're in trouble.

If you give false ID, you would be in even more trouble.

I have several friends that are in law enforcement and they ask this quite often. I highly suggest that you show them your id because they will run you through the computer regardless and it keeps you from having an angry officer that can look into charging you with something.

I also highly advise against giving a false name or address, because you never know what that will pull up.

In most states it is required by law that you carry some sort of picture id, preferably state issued, on your person at all times. if an officer witnesses a possible crime, it is his duty to investigate that potential crime to the fullest of his ability. if he asks you for id, and you refuse to give it to him, he has the authority to arrest you for failing to provide identification, if you still refuse to give it at the jail, you can be detained for an indefinite amount of time as "John Doe" until you can provide ID. t hey dont have to look for it. so just show it to him. if you are underage he may write you a court summons for underage drinkin and may call your parents.not a real big deal. or you can go to jail until you decide to grow a brain.

You have to show ID if you are asked. If you are in the house it is a different story.

yes, the police has reasonable suspicion that a crime is occurring because you look younger then 21. He can require you to show ID at that point.

Yes, the authorities can ask you to show your I.D. at any time...and you are required to provide it.

If you don't identify yourself, the police are supposed to put you in jail until they can identify you. Why be a horse's smelly behind?
