Pizza, fried chicken, candy, donuts, steak and more are all considered uhealthy food if eaten often. But why do we like them so much, then? Why can't we like what's good for us, like greens, fruits etc.?
Of course, there are people who like healthy foods, but they develop a taste for them only when they realize it's healthy. If steak was healthy the word "salad" would not be in out dictionary.
Why is it like this?

It's just that for things that we like, we tend to eat too much of, because we like it.

I think we evolved as scavangers. When we found food, we needed to eat as much as we could, because who knows when you'll find some more. The foods with the most bang for the buck therefore were more important for us to like. So we like hgh calorie foods.

If you give most animals too much food, they will get fat. We are animals too. But we can give ourselves food. Only with self discipline can we overcome our animal instincts. Hmans have self discipline, animals do not. Some people are also probably wired to crave high calorie foods more than others based on their heritage. Seems logical too me.

You have a point, but it is not true for all healthy foods. Baked chicken is good and good for you. Watermelon is a really tasty treat and very healthy for you. Peanut butter is also a healthy treat, and when made on whole grain bread is even better for you. I could go on and on...but I think my point is made. Some things you mention can be healthy, for example, pizza for example when made with a whole grain crust and lots of veggies and lean meat. Steak is a very good source of protein. We just should not eat so much. Sometimes when I make steak, I put it on a crouton and top it with a whole large roasted mushroom. YUM!
My peanutbutter only has 120 calories for 2 tablespoons.

Many of the unhealthy foods you speak of contain high amounts of salt or fat and in many cases high amounts of MSG. When consumed in large amounts the body becomes addicted to it just like sugar or caffine. What our bodies crave triggers our brain to "like it" so to speak. Many vegatables and fruits are naturally sweet and if someone was only given these types of foods until they reach beyond a certain age they will never develop a craving for these unhealthy foods and there for will never develop a taste for them. The problem is many foods are healthy in moderation, such as meats and things and that it is very dificult to for most people to judge what is moderation.

i think its something about the primitive parts of our brain that craves carbs, sugar, and other things that give us energy (and like a million calories) because way back a million years ago we needed the most calories we could get to survive.
