You could get him a kid's laptop, but I strongly suggest getting him a Mac instead. They are all but indestructible. Both my daughters started off with iMacs, and they were great units. My youngest had her first one quite literally as her first birthday present. She beat the daylights out of that thing and it took it all.

Also, a Mac will teach the child more than one of the kid laptops, and it will last a lot longer because it can grow with the child. All you have to do is buy older age software.

If the child somehow actually did blow up the system, it's easily fixed. Stick the CD in and let it rip. We have had both Macs and PCs for about 12 years and the Macs almost never have problems even though they get used just as much (if not more!) than the PCs.

Some really great kids software programs are:
Just Me & My Mom
Just Me & My Dad
Just Me & Grandma
Just Me & Grandpa
These are all starring Little Critter from the books
Fisher Price has a wonderful early learning program about a circus (I've forgotten the name) and Humongous Entertainment has some wonderful programs.

I have continually searched for laptops for my 2 yr old he has been interested and needing to play on the computer for many months now. I have found several different ones from leapfrog, leapster, babyeinstien, etc etc. However what I find is they look and act like toys not computers. They want to mimic us, the screens on these are the size of gameboy's and are nowhere near efficient for the mind and imagination of a growing toddler. Let me know if you find one, but I have yet to be impressed by any toy computer from $15- $100.

Infant/ toddler games are online at Fisher -Price
Site is below...

they have games that only require the action of pressing ANY key on keyboard for results.

Your child will like any other baby/kid laptop for a while, but will always want what you have, ya know?

you can find leap frog type computers for him to use. i wouldn't go invest in a grown up one since he's probly not processing what he's doing.
check toys r us, walmart, target, ebay and craigslist for them.

ps good for you for having a kid who can multi task like that lol most adults can't type and use a mouse at the same time lol
