into heaven. If this is true how do you reconcile that with the notion of universal admitance as long as you accept Jesus as your personial savior? Are their ONLY 144,000 "TRUE" believers out there over the last 2,000 years?

There are many theories about the 144,000. Some people say that they are Jews. This is partially true. Of the 144,000, 12,000 are from Judah, but the others are from the remaining tribes of Israel.

Some people claim that the 144,000 are the church. Is this true? The Bible tells us that the 144,000 are virgins - 12,000 from each of the twelve sons of Israel, except for Dan who is excluded.

There are only two places in the Bible that make reference to the 144,000. The first mention is in the Book of Revelation, in chapter seven.

It is true that only 144,000 will be going to heaven to rule with Christ over the earth, where all the others of the "great crowd" spoken of in Revelation 7: 9 will be living after Armageddon. The number 144,000 is mentioned in the verses right before that - Rev. 7: 4-8, and then in verse 9 it says "AFTER these . . ." Indicating a different set of people. These people are the ones who will be on the earth, and return it to paradise. They are the ones that Rev. 21:3, 4 is talking about. And the same ones that Psalm 37:11 talks about -  "But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace."
I have the hope of being one of the great crowd and having the opportunity to live forever on the earth.

People are telling you not to take this literally, but think about the scripture at Revelation 21:3 ,4 - It says that death will be done away with - how can death be done away with if this is talking about heaven? Do people die in heaven? Is there sickness and sorrow in heaven? Then how can those things be done away with as it says in this scripture? They can't, because this is talking about the conditions on the earth. This is literal. The scripture at Rev. 7: 4-9 is literal.

There are 144,000 who are chosen due to exceptional faithfulness. These ones have been given the hope of heavenly life to be kings and priests over the earth along side Jesus. Rev. 7: 1-17; Rev. 14: 3 & 4 The twelve tribes listed are not the same as the original twelve tribes of Israel, so they must be spiritual Israel, not actual Jews.

There are others who are true believers, in fact the bible calls them a "great crowd" that will survive the great tribulation. These have the hope to be the "meek who inherit the earth...reside forever upon it" Ps 37: 10, 11 & 29;

If you actually read and study then it would make more sense. The 144,000 are Jews who will be evangalists in the end times. They will go out into the world and preach the gospel trying to save as many people as possible. They are protected by God but they are certainly not the only ones in heaven. If that were true how would you explain the martyrs under the alter that are a multitude that can not be numbered?

IF you believe everything you read... then read this: You will never get into the kingdom of heaven... you expect everything that you read to be true. You are a gulliable sucker that should be taken advantage of at every opportunity. If you think that a book that was written over 2 thousand years ago has any answers for modern day questions... you are even more stupid that I first thought. Nobody even knows who wrote the bible. Silence is the only "promise" that this so called god has ever kept.
If you are so gulliable as to model your life after some book that no one knows who wrote... has nothing to do with modern day, and cannot be substanciated...then you deserve whatever you get.

Everybody who wants to read the bible, esp. the New Testament, esp. the Book of Revelation, would benefit from knowing how the Jewish people used numerology.

Google it if you get a chance.

Numbers had specific meanings for them. 6 stood for imperfection. That was why the anti-Christ was 666: triple imperfection. 7 was a primary number and stood for perfection. 40 often stood for an eternity, or a really long time.

I dunno what "149,000" symbolized in Jewish numerology, but like I said: Google it and I bet you get a lot of interesting information.

The 144,000 refers to the tribes of Israel. There will be 12,000 from each of the tribes of the 12. Take 12, times it 12,000, and what do you get?

These are the faithful priesthood holders of each tribe. They will be set aside to help with organization and sorting of each person into their perspective groups. I think it will all be done with order and control, seeing as God likes order.

the number 144,000 in Revelation is highly symbolic, like most of Revelation, it should not be taken literally, if one does, then these 144,000 must ALSO be VIRGINS:

And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads. - Revelation 14:1.

These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. - Revelation 14:4.

The number is pointing to ALL believers as the number 12 is highly symbolic in the Bible of all believers and here it represents 12X12000

That's not right. Look, where does that say it in here?

Revelation 7
1 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. 2 Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: 3 "Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God." 4 Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.
5 From the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed,
from the tribe of Reuben 12,000,
from the tribe of Gad 12,000,
6 from the tribe of Asher 12,000,
from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000,
from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000,
7 from the tribe of Simeon 12,000,
from the tribe of Levi 12,000,
from the tribe of Issachar 12,000,
8 from the tribe of Zebulun 12,000,
from the tribe of Joseph 12,000,
from the tribe of Benjamin 12,000.

And where does it say that here?

Revelation 14
1 Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads. 2 And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. 3 And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4 These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they kept themselves pure. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among men and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. 5 No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.

They are to be a population of people in the Great Tribulation who will be chosen by God in the future, not in the time that Jesus walked the Earth. So there have been many who received Christi since then, and there will be more later and after that. It's just that those 144, 000 are set aside as something different from the rest of us Christians who are here today. God has special plans for them, not that they are the only one's saved.

Hi,

My religion is 'Raelian', it is our belief that when there are 144,000 followers of Rael then the Elohim will return. Check out http://www.rael.org this is what is meant in Revelations. Revelations also states 10:7 that the mystery of God should be finished!

Love
Baroni :)
