some Jews support israel and say that palestine is "their promised land".. when asked about the killings they say that they are zionists but still defend them...

other jews on the other hand even dont like the idea of a jewish state, they dont want israel to exist... even the jewish leader, before the jews came to palestine in 1948, sent a letter to the UN that they dont want to establish a jewish nation in palestine...

so basically why is it that the UN gave palestine to the EUROPIAN jews without the approval of the jews in palestine let alone the palestinian people who owned the land before the jews even came in..

dont give me the "promised land" crap... talk to me from a point where we both agree upon... in other words, i can write a book that promises me France... it is still invalid...

and do share your thoughts with out hate statements..
thanks

Why do some Americans support the war in Iraq and some don't? You are asking a political question -- not a R&S question. Zionism is a political movement. When it began it was a secular movement, not religious. Most Jews in Israel are secular.

You said: "dont give me the "promised land" crap... talk to me from a point where we both agree upon... in other words, i can write a book that promises me France... it is still invalid..."

I reiterate. You are asking a political question in the R&S section. If you don't want the religious answer, then post in the right section!

First, the Palestinian people never owned the land. There never once was a country called Palestine, it was a colony of the Ottoman Empire, then of Britain. The Jews owned the land first, in Biblical times, then were exiled. The ownership of the land (we're zooming forward in history) was given to the Ottomans, then, and even they did not award the Palestinians their own state--let's note, as well, that the word "Palestinian" included Jews at that time, too, since Jews had always lived in Palestine, even when in exile, some still existed there. The word Palestinian meant ALL the people of Palestine.

Most Jews support Israel not because of Biblical reasons but because they follow simple history and know that the land transition from the Ottomans to the British to the UN to the Jews was legitimate and legal.

The Jews who refuse to recognize Israel's existence are extremists/fundamentalists, and they choose this route because of the Bible. They believe that only Moshiach can establish a Jewish state, so they oppose it on Biblical reasons.

First off the Jews of Palestine overwhelmingly wanted the Jewish state because they were constantly attacked by the Arabs around them. Why do you think why do you think Israel had an army before they had a state? They needed it to protect themselves.

The fact of the matter is Israel exists and its a Jewish state.

You can cry and moan how unfair it is, but until you and your people learn to accept that, the sooner the Palestinians can also have a state.

You rejected a state in 1932. 1947, 1967, 1973, and 2001
As long as you care more about destroying the Jewish state than establishing a Palestinian one you will lose.

Different Jews have different ideas about what "the nation of Israel" is. For some, what is now designated "Israel" is the re-establishment of their God-promised geographical realm, God acting through the United Nations, so to speak. For others, it is a secular state bearing little resemblance to the spiritual "nation" they have become since the Diaspora. In other words, for some it's the land, for others, it's the people.

Most "Zionists" see the Israeli government justifiably defending their land in a hostile region. Many non-zionists see Israel over-reaching itself, continually occupying foreign territory and terrorizing surrounding countries. It's all in how the situation is perceived in light of one's beliefs.

Israeli bulldozers destroy Palestinian homes and build walls to make way for Jewish "settlers". Hamas and Hezbolah partisans launch rockets at Israeli cities. Israeli jets bomb Lebanon and Gaza. Palestinians send suicide bombers into crowded Jewish plazas. Each combatant sees the other as inhuman, demonic aggressors. Every attack is a response to a previous wrong. There is plenty of blame to share, no matter who has the greater share. The only people who aren't heard are the ones who want the fighting to stop. There is no satisfactory solution. But there are unsatisfactory solutions that can be tolerated. Neither "side" seems interested in solutions, only in being "right" and in "winning".

You can equate the current situation of not all Jews supporting Israel and not returning to the "Promise Land" by the decree from Cyrus the Babalonian when he said that the 2 million captured Jews that were exiled to Babalon could return to "The Promise Land." Only 50,000 returned out of 3 million.

I doubt if many rejoice in the destruction of lebanon, but the only reason for Hesbollah to exist is for their declared desire to wipe Israel off the map and Israel cannot afford to allow a continued buildup of heavy weapons on their border. Unfortunately the Gov of Lebanon is unable or unwilling to do anything about it, so the Israelis have to. It seems very clear to me.

i talked to a death camp survivor less than a year ago. he said that after the war he went to Poland, his home where everything was gone. he shouted that the people there told him to go to Israel.

to quote him he said, "i didnt know which direction Israel is, and everyone tells me to go there. dont you tell me that i stole ANYTHING, because they sent me there."

as the perspective of a man who lived it, i take his word. the state of Israel was created from a small base of early 20th century settlers and the need to solve a Jewish refugee crisis, even those without Zionism had to become Zionists. the way to solve a refugee crisis is not to start another one, but Israel is there already, and its hard to move.

There are no Jews who do not want Israel to exist.
Some Jews support the state of Israel, and some Jews oppose the state of Israel, due to religious and/or ideological issues.
Still, all Jews believe what the Bible says:
Israel was promised to the Jewish people by G-d.

Half of the worl'ds jews live in the U.S. where they are only 2% of the population, yet they prosper. The era of the ethnic-based state is passed, and this quasi-government should be deposed and a multicultural democracy established. They have no more right right to fly the star of david of a national flag than we would a cross.

Because they are people... different people with different ideas. Why do some Evangelicals think one thing and some another? This question presupposes that all Jews think alike.
