My experience has been that this is a true statement. As I have said before I am not a Buddhist, but I have practiced meditation for over 20 years & have studied much on Buddhism. In my system we call it waking up , or equate mindfulness to that of being an observer. At times Wisdom will come thru me but I truly believe is not of me. We also believe that we never learn wisdom, we just learn how to stop stopping it. If you can ask the question, the answer is already within you. Thank you for a thought provoking question.

what Suzuki implies by Learning is machine learning, or gathering information which burden your brain..
Wisdom is your understanding your depth, your alertness and NOT the mental IQ.
So wisdom comes when mindfulness is observed in every actions you take or do.. walk, eat, bath, watch, clean, talk, move ,scratch, even fight and anger also done with mindfulness becomes a way for getting Wisdom.. best way to mindfulness is to watch your breathing. sit for an hour and devote yourself to watching the breathe. means feeling the in out in out of breathe at nose tip.. with closed eyes or half closed eyes focused on tip of the nose.. sit with crossed legs. straight back, neck , without too strain or too loose , on a pillow,
this is a long discipline , acquired after years of mindfulness..
in France , Plum village , Thich Nhat Nhah, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk is teaching mindfulness
and one woman named Taitaku Pat Phelan, follower of Zen .. is also teaching mindfulness
Many Zen monasteries, in Western countries, are now teaching what mindfulness is, Thus you are at the stepping stone of acquiring wisdom

I feel the same as where the Bible says:
"The wisdom of man is foolishness to God."
So true wisdom comes from a heart turned toward God, and not just education from thoughts and ideas of men.
Hitler's Nazis were highly educated men, but they had no wisdom, or they would have never done such foolish acts.
We see today right in our own country, (USA) where supposedly some of the smartest people in politics are doing some of the stupidest things imaginable,
(such as starting the war in Iraq).
True wisdom never springs from the mind of man alone, but from hearts seeking God and His infinite wisdom.

If he means that wisdom is something that someone has to learn by experience and not hearing or reading about it, I would agree. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes experience to learn what NOT to do.

Beautiful.
It reminded me of something I'd read before:
True knowledge or wisdom is not an ant-work (accumulation); its a bee-work ( gathering and then producing something new and better).
Thanks for sharing.
