What are his options for nhs treatment? (if any) he would prefer bridgework

There are a couple of options there is a bridge, however that involves other teeth and if the other teeth are okay you have to really think about messing with them. There's an implant- you would have to have a consultation to make sure you have enough bone to even support one. There's a flipper- not pretty at all it does just that flops around. Good luck.

If he can afford an implant for about $2000 that is his best option (least grief and best appearance).

At least around here it would be. If "nhs" is National Health Service then they may not cover it and he is back to thinking "what can I afford?"
