Sigh. Raven, you knew you'd get some idiot responses to this; good for you for posting it anyway.

Catholic bookstores often have nice, appropriate cards for priests and religious. If there's none near you, a mass card for his intentions from either the diocesan cathedral or a nearby shrine would be good, too. Or perhaps just an inspirational bookmark/holy card with a simple note of thanks from you ... sometimes the simplest is the best. Good priests aren't thanked often enough, and I know whatever you choose to do it will be much appreciated.

If you are any good with crafts, many of the priests I know particularly appreciate religious craft work, such as hand made rosaries, etc.

I think we sometimes forget, too, that sometimes non-religiously themed gifts can be appropriate, too, if we know what their interests are. I have a priest friend who loves to cook, so anything useful in the kitchen always works with him.

You're a musician like me, and another possible gift that will seem meaningful from you is the gift of music. If you have any sense of that priest's tastes, anything from a disc of chant to the latest John Michael Talbot CD would be apropos.

A gift card for a bookstore or a gift certicicate to a religious gift shop or a company like Autom.
I give priests Mass cards for their intentions and prayer needs. Money is always nice.

Many priests get gifts of religious glow-in-the dark trinkets which are not what they would want or could use,i more than suspect.

As old as Christianity ; a solid basket, a couple of cheeses, crackers or bread, a beverage only you know if alcohol is appropriate, some fruit, perhaps a salami or simiilar or get truly Biblical and give dried fish (in Hawai'i cuttle fish), or if he is Nordic Lutheran then pickled herring. Eastern Orthodoc Priests appreciate caviar..... and if money is 'required' go for a food store certificate or if pressed for cash don't be stingy give at least fifty this is two thousand going on ten....

Gift cards and cash are always appreciated. When my husband and I were getting married the priest told several people "Green goes with everything!" Think twice before giving food -- some people are diabetic, have allergies and some just have weight issues. I agree with the heart felt card of appreciation.
Peace be with you.

I once bought one a pass to my "Water Park" because he looked like he was having way too much fun during the Easter Vigil ... another idea is a "Gas Card" ... or commit to a number of prayers for him and actually follow through with the prayers.

coming to every single mass, not chewing gum esp. when you have the Eucharist, singing the songs without shame, going to adoration, wearing nice clothes for mass, knowing all the prayers and saying them (participating in mass ) donating money to the church (whether in or out of mass), going to reconciliation, volunteering for the church. ofcourse, come to think of it, everyone loves a nice fruit basket.
