The number 666 (or six hundred three score and six) is refered to as the "mark of the beast". It is derived from the fact that Jewish letters are also numbers. So a written Jewish name also has a number when the letters are added all together. For instance it is my understanding that JESUS CHRIST adds up to 888. The Beast is a man who is given power by satan . .. in mock imitation of GOD THE FATHER giving power through THE WORD MADE FLESH . ..
There's several schools of thought on who the beast is, such as Nero Ceasar who's name does add up to 666.
I did a simple google scan and found this interesting picture of the numbers 666 . .. though in revelations this number is given to the followers of the beast upon the forehead or upon the right hand. JESUS CHRIST, of course, sits at the RIGHT HAND of GOD the FATHER and represents the "favored" hand . .. As most people are commonly right handed . .. The forehead is unique because wearing something on your forehead can be seen by all but not by the person wearing it . ..
