Handing MOST people a religious tract doesn't work, it's true. But somewhere, some day, there IS going to be that one person that really really needs it, and is open to it just at that time on that day.

Anyone who doesn't want to read it has that choice, but the Christians still have the freedom to hand them out...and there are many other groups that make themselves seen & heard while not doing such a good thing as those handing out tracts.

Live & let live.

It's a waste of paper. On the other hand, I make a point out of collecting tracts that people leave on buses, in hospitals, etc, just to clear up the litter in the public thoroughfares. I have quite a little collection of them, and pull them out when I need a bit of a chuckle.

EDITED TO ADD: In response to Deof Movestofca... yes, those "money" tracts are the worst -- they get people's hopes up, often people making minimum wage who could really use a big tip to help with basic expenses, and then crush them. Christians really shoot themselves in the foot with those ones, because I've never heard of them generating anything other than anger and resentment against the person/religion who played the trick on the unsuspecting person who picks them up.

I dont know. For some it has worked. For some its just the little bit of inspiration they needed to go through the day and for others it does absolutely nothing. At least not then. I think that handing out tracts goes on a case by case basis.

Maybe occasionally if they are looking for some sort of truth in their lives.

I think they are more often changed by the encounter than the literature they are handed - could be in a good way or a bad way, too.

I also think that anyone who has led someone to Christ would say that that person's one single soul was worth years of effort, handing out tracts to people who didn't want them.

Yes. It made some difference to me. But only those who are chosen by God can respond to Him.

I find that handing out tracts is a rather undiscerning way of going about it. But know that the people who are handing them to you have the best in mind for you. Even if you never going to be saved they are doing what they would call obedient to God and showing love for others. They obviously don't know how you are swayed, but they are meaning the best for you.

Please understand.

The worst ones in my opinion are the ones that look like money that people leave as a "tip". I don't have any problem with tracts as a SUPPLEMENT to witnessing, but they should never be used a replacement for it. And although I think Christians have as much right to freedom as speech as anyone else, trying to force people to listen is counterproductive.

I have no problem with people handing out religious tracts.
If they think God would want them to and they didn't then they
would be sinning. It's no difference than people running for puplic office handing out campaign fliers. And if you don't want the fliers either say no thank, you or take it and just throw it away. But I did notice one of the people who answered you called himself reverend and the Bible say to reverence no man,you should either go by pastor.minister or elder these are all scriptural. And the Bible says you should spread the good news.

Friend: I believe that answering questions is the most effective way to share my faith. I don't give out tracts. I Just try to be available when someone has a question about faith.

Handing out tracts is more for the people who hand them out because it makes them feel like they have met their religions evangelism requirements. It makes them feel like they've actually made a difference.

No...but, it is an easy way for fundies to feel like they are doing something useful...

It is too hard for fundies to live a Christian life and show Christ's love through their actions...so, they advertise their beliefs by putting the fish symbol on their cars...and then to do their duty, hand out tracks....lazy asses...
