It is a historical fact that in A.D. 606 old emperor Phocus, who was himself a murderer and an adulterer, appointed Boniface III as the first pope. That is only the start of the connection between the pagan Roman Empire and the Roman Catholic Church.

The primary arguments against Christians on the grounds that their religion is violent include the Crusades and the Inquisitions. These were all Catholic led.
That isn't to say that the Protestants don't have their skeletons in the closet. Salem is likely the most famous instance in question. Still, compared to the millions of people killed in the Crusades and various inquisitions, this occurance is comprably insignificant.

A better phrasing would be who has killed the most people: Christian dogmatists or Christian relativists?
The Catholics have been around longer, had a state of their own, and engaged in the Crusades and the Inquisition.
The Protestants haven't had enough time to catch up, but they were responsible for the Salem witch trials, Knox's battles in Scotland against Catholics and Anglicans, and the various wars in Europe.
In other words, who knows? This is not a discernible statistic.
