Jesus was put on earth to die for our sins. BUT, he was causing a bit of trouble preaching as he was, and was sentenced to death.
In the Garden of Gethsemane (sp) he did ask "that you let this cup pass from me>' Of God, then said "your will be done."
So, the MAN Jesus didn't want to die..but as the son of God he had no choice.

He chose.
The night before His crucifixion, in the Garden of Gethsemane (pronounced either GETH-se-mane or geth-SE-many) Matthew 26:39 tells us :He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will." He made the decision to follow through with His Commission, even though He knew exactly what he was in store for.
The Bible also says in Matthew 26:53, still in the Garden, when Peter cut off the ear of one of the soldiers, that Jesus said "...do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? 54 How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?" Jesus could have opted out at any time, but the whole reason for Him becoming man was to pay the price for our sins.
He was crucified not for "a crime", He is the only person ever to live a wholly sinless life. He literally became sin - not a sinner, but the embodiment of sin itself - and it was that sin that was crucified, in the person of Jesus. When he said "it is finished", He was saying "mission accomplished".
The 26th chapter of Matthew is an excellent source for more information - especially if you're willing to put in the time to cross-reference and research it.

The "crime" Christ was crucified for was not a capital offense at the time. In addition, the trials themselves were illegal under Jewish jurisprudince.
To answer your question, yes and no.
For God to be perfectly just, sin needed to be punished. Since only God is perfect enough to pay the penalty for all of mankinds sin, only God was able to pay the penalty.
If there were another way, Jesus would have taken it. As it was there was not, so he did the work he came to do. He could have easily avoided the death penalty, but that would have ment denying himself and his purpose.

Yes, he chose to follow through with the promise that he had made back at the fall of Adam and Eve.
If he had chosen to break that promise, he would have then committed a sin, and that sin would have been to break his own word, given to us so long ago.
As far as a crime committed in the secular world, pontius pilot found no crime to persecute him for, but to keep the natives from charging the gates, decided to crucify the one that had them all riled up.

Yes, of course he CHOSE to be crucified! His father asked him to do it and he did what his father asked him to do.
Yes, of course, he could have said "no" at any point along the way and refused to do it. He could have told his father "no" straight off the bat and not even come to earth. He could have said "no" anywhere along the mission. Before he enters Jerusalem, Peter says to Jesus that if Jesus thinks he's going to be crucified there that maybe they should go back and preach in the countryside instead. Jesus could have done that. Jesus prayed in the garden before he was arrested, begging his father to change his mind so that he didn't have to go through with it. He could have told his father he wouldn't do it then. Satan, I think, spoke to him while he was on the cross and told him to take himself down from there. He could have done that.
Of course, Jesus was arrested but they were trumped up charges by the ruling Jewish group at the time who felt threatened by Jesus' power and following. If Jesus had been quiet and/or gone back to the countryside to preach, he wouldn't have been crucified as no one with such power would have bothered with him.

Yes He did. I think that once he was made flesh he might have wanted to find some other way.
I don't take this as a slight or that it makes Jesus any less. He was about to go through hell on earth and then go to hell and I know that it was not something he could possibly look forward to.That he did it anyway is why I'm a Christian.
Furthermore, at any minute I believe that had Jesus wanted to an army of angels could have come down and settled the matter rather quickly as far as who was going to die that day.

He did choose to die for us. He could have stopped things at any time, but He knew what was needed, and did it with no regard to Himself.
If you remember, when He was in the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed to the Father:Matt. 26:39- And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. 42- He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. Because of what had to be done there, He was probably a little scared, and a little worried about what might happen to Himself. I'm sure He didn't want to do it if there was another way, but notice that He always bows to the will of His Father. He knew what needed to be done, so He did it.
The Garden was where He took upon Himself the sins of the world. The cross was where He finished His life, and the tomb was were He loosed the bands of death for us all. Forgetting about the Garden and just jumping right to the cross is missing a whole chunk of what He did for us.
Read the whole chapter of Matt. 26. Also, Luke 22:39-44.
The Roman government found Christ not guilty of what they were accusing Him of. If you read in Matt. 27, you will find that Pontius Pilate washed his hands of the whole thing. This was symbolic of him saying that he wanted nothing to do with the decision, that he thought Christ was innocent, and was washing the blood of the innocent off of his hands.
It wasn't the roman government that wanted him dead, it was the Jewish leaders. They said Christ was a blasphemer for saying that He was the son of God. They didn't want to believe it, because if they did, their leadership would end. They were corrupt and didn't care about anything, or anyone, but themselves. They wanted done with Jesus, and were willing to do anything to be rid of Him and His influence. Christ knew this, and it didn't stop Him from doing what needed to be done. He knew He would killed by His own people. That didn't stop Him from teaching, or from finishing the work that His Father had sent Him to do.

I think Jesus just knew that he was going to die, God let him know. I also think that he felt that it was something that he had to do for us. I mean, that is why we worship him, right? The Romans thought Jesus had committed a crime just by speaking of this god and saying that he was the son of this god. So it kind of was like a crime to the Romans, but not a crime in the Christain's perspective. You have to interpret the bible in the way you think it might mean. Did he choose to die for our sins? What do YOU think?

Yes, He chose. He knew that His death was coming, yet He did nothing to change His tactics.
What "crime" was he crucified for? If you remember, the Roman authority proclaimed to the people that he found Jesus guilty of no crime, but the Jewish religious leaders insisted...
