I went to Trader Joes for wine for my parents. I found out they had several types. What's the difference between the wines and what foods are you suppose to eat with each wine?
The red wines were Shiraz, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvingnon. The white wines were Sauvingnon Blanc and the Chardonnay.

There is no difference at all... ALL wines are exactly the same... not matter the color, ingredients or alcohol content...

The rule used to be - red wine with red meat - white whine with fish and poultry. The times have changed and so have peoples pallets. Buy wine you like and serve with foods you enjoy. If you don't know read the descriptions of flavors as described on the back of the bottle and on the cards in front of the wines - they will say things like fruity or buttery, oaky or smokey - sweet and creamy wine types will go better with vegetables (salads and veg dishes) as well as fish and poultry. Nutty, oaky and woodsy will go better with Meat, strong vegetables (like portebello, eggplant, etc), turkey, pork and red tuna. I find it much easier to match flavor notes then wine types. I do find, however, that Chianti is best for heavy garlic and pasta dishes regardless of meat being served. Good Luck!

Normally, the correlation is the darker the meat, the darker the wine. IOW, white wines for fish and chicken, dark wines for beef and lamb.
