I would never do that to my child. He deserves to be socialized so he can make his own decisions later. After he is on his own, I might consider it for my hus and I, but not with my son.

Yes, I have also. Alaska is a beautiful state, but the winters there are very hard. When I was up there it got down to 76 below zero. You could freeze water by throwing it into the air. I was surprised but it did work. There are some much smaller towns out in the Midwest of this beautiful country that you could live off of the land, but as someone said it takes a lot of hard work, and it's seven days a week. Some people don't mind it and others can't tolerate the solitude. Small towns where maybe a small movie theater, and regular shops that are papa and mama owned would be a great way to go. But you have to make a living, because not all foods are not available on a farm all of the time. Well it's fun to dream and think about it. It would be a much better place to raise a healthy family I can tell you that. Well dream on and have fun.

There's lots of room in Maine. New Hampshire is gorgeous and also has lots of free room. Vermont would foster your "live off the land" life style and from one's creativity, but housing there is getting difficult to find. I live in Canada near the VT border and there's lots of room up here.
I did what you are wishing for - three years ago, I left the big city and found a country cottage with some pretty land. I loved it for 2 whole years. Now things need repair and the up-keep on a country place is on-going. You will never know unless you try if the change a life-style would make a difference to you. People around me seem very happy here and never want to leave their country places. Good luck with your decision.

Yes, It would be fantastic if everyone had that idea and just went and did it. leaving everything else behind. It would be nice to take a tent trailer and just travel like some people do and live off the land food wise and then move when it is all gone. until winter, but of course we are supposed to save up for the winter like ants do and then we will have something to eat then. unless of course you can live somewhere in the winter that has winter foods, such as winter squash? Heh?

Oh there are plenty of places all acrost our country for that. That has kind of a long term goal of mine but more like a pipe dream. It would be good for me because im single with no kids. But id probly go nuts and turn into Ted Kazinsky from having no contact with anyone.Im not sure if I had children Id want to do this.Becaus I would want my kids to have all the advantages I had and more. Then again if this great country of ours gets any worse I think it would be better for kids.To grow up in isolation.

You could do it in Alaska or Canada...Or really you could do it on a farm here in the States...
I think about that sometimes too...Especially when I am having financial woes...
