Who says that just because you are a single mom - you are looking for a husband or a dad for your kids? That's a general misconception and I think that as long as you are being a great mom and doing right by your children - you are fine. It's legal. It's fun. And you aren't bringing the kids around this person - so have fun with it and be safe.

I don't have any kids but I am also 26 and I would never date an 18 year old simply because most 18 year olds are very immature and they are prohibited to be in some places. Most 18 year olds are broke and live with mommy and daddy, so do you really want to have to support another person? More than likely they won't even have the money to pay their own way when the 2 of you go out. The absolute youngest guy that I would ever consider dating is 21.

Age difference is a tough thing no matter the gender, but you have a CHILD to think about. Messing around with boys that are barely legal might be fun and an ego trip for you, but your KID should be coming first. I'd make sure that whoever you date would be an acceptable role model for your kid regardless of any age difference. Chances that an 18 year old kid is ready for that kind of commitment is slim at best. In your situation, dating around really isn't an option like it was before children. They will see what you do, and that will be the basis for what they think is acceptable. Think about that before anything else.

It's legal, but remember this person has just become an adult, while you've been doing it for 8 yrs so have more experience (plus the maturity that raising a child will force upon you).
The 18 yr old is more likely to be more kid-like than adult-like, but go out with him a time or two and if he isn't your cup of tea, then move on.
My preference has always been toward the guys older than me, but I have dated those 2 - 9 yrs younger.

Maturity is the important part. If you find an 18yr old who is mature enough to handle the fact that you have a family and you both get along and are ok with the age difference, then go for it.
Personally I am a 27 yr old recently divorced mother and I would never think of dating a 19yr old, but the choice is yours.

As a 26 year old MOTHER, when you date, every guy you date SHOULD be looked at as a POTENTIAL FATHER FIGURE for your children.... at 18, a man is just barely a man and still in MANY ways very much a boy--and in NO WAY is he ready to accept the responsibility of fatherhood ESPECIALLY to someone ELSE's kids!!!!!! Also, 18 year old guys are not MATURE enough for a 26 year old woman who has CHILDREN.... 18 year olds are into partying and dating and LOTS OF SEX and more partying and experimenting with drugs and Alcohol (even though they aren't LEGALLY old enough)... and is THAT what you want to expose your CHILDREN TO??? I should HOPE NOT. Leave the craddle robbing to the men---go for an experienced man with maturity and maybe even someone with children himself....you don't NEED to have another CHILD in your life (such as an 18 year old male)....

i don't see a problem with it... I was 24 and dated a guy that was 36... if anyone has a problem with it I would tell them to go take a flying leap... You can date who you want, as long as he's 18 you should be good to go.. Do what makes you happy not, don't listen to what other people are going to say...

No matter what age you date it should be legal. The only other thing you need to worry about is whether he is mature enough for you and if he can handle being with someone who has the demands of a single parent.

When you say "date," do you mean finding someone who would be suitable for marriage? Suitable for helping you raise your child? Suitable for having a "good time" with? Basically, I think it depends on your goals, but, in any event, 18 sounds awfully young to me.
