I recently purchased a helmet camera and would like to get a mini-dv or digital (hdd) recorder (not camcorder). Does anyone know of some that are under $400? I'm looking to get at least 10 hours worth of video (at least 20GB).

And I'd prefer for it not to have a screen, as this is something that would be more of a reliability if the unit ever gets ejected.

My camera's video out is composite. But I can also us BNC connection. I'm open to all ideas. Thanks!

Good point! I actually don't need the thing record for longer than an hour or two at a time.

I just need the storage space, as I will not be next to computer to upload for probably weeks at a time.

miniDV normally records 1 hour on a tape. i don't think any system has a battery that will work for 10 hours continuously. Using extra long tape at slow speed and an oversize battery, you may get close to 2 hours of continuous record time.

I have a Sony miniDV Walkman. Has composite in and no monitor. The audio input is line level, so you will need a mic amp, there are several models of miniture mixers that run on 9 volt power. I run mine with dc voltage taken from the Walkman. I am not sure these are still sold, you might look on eBay for a used one. They sold for more than $400 new.
