L-Boogie has given you some very good advice, so I shall just add my suggestions for training your kitten.
You need to spend regular play time every day with your kitten, especially if he is an indoor only cat. When cats play, they enjoy practicing their hunting skills. Sometimes they get carried away and just don't realise how much they are hurting, so never use your hands instead of toys to play with him. Use toys that dangle off the end of a wand stick as he can be as rough as he likes with those without you getting hurt. These toys are great for playing "hunting" games. You can drag them along the floor for him to chase or hold them high so that he has to leap up to catch them. Some cats enjoy playing fetch, so try scrunching up paper into a small ball to see if that stimulates his interest. Cats do have preferences for types of toy, so offer him a wide selection to see which ones he likes best. Something as simple as a cardboard box, empty cotton reel or paper bag can create hours of fun for a cat. If he bites or scratches you during play, very gently scruff the skin at the back of his neck and tell him "no" in a firm voice. If he doesn't calm down, stop play immediately and walk away from him. Cats are pretty smart, he will quickly learn that biting isn't acceptable and that the fun stops if he misbehaves.
Cats are independent natured and won't always do something just to please someone else. In my experience, positive reinforcement always works best with them. Good behaviour should always be rewarded with food treats or lots of cuddles and praise. They are quick to to adopt behaviour that benefits them in some way. Personally, I've never used the water bottle technique to train my cats for the reasons mentioned in the web article below.

Now is also the ideal time to train him to use a scratching post or other acceptable item. You can make the lessons part of play time and the web articles below offer advice and suggestions which will help you train him.

Cats aren't adults until they are two years old, so your kitten is still just a baby. He will make mistakes while he is growing up and learning life's lessons, but with patience and kindness, you can teach him good manners.
As for names, I've always found that when I see their face, that a name comes to mind that just seems right for that cat.
Thank you for taking the time to be fully informed before you even get your kitten. You already have the makings of a wonderful owner, so it's a very lucky kitten who'll be coming home to live with you.
Good luck.

You have not indicated how ancient you're, so it's intricate to understand what quantity of accountability is predicted from you. You have to make certain there's contemporary water, and meals, despite the fact that possibly your mom will likely be concerned with that greater than you. If it's dry meals, then make certain a few is consistently there, and that the bowl is wiped clean more commonly. If rainy meals, it can not keep out all day or it'll smash If there's a muddle field, make certain it's more commonly emptied and wiped clean on a constant foundation, however don't use robust cleaners, on account that if the odor of purifier is simply too robust, you kitten will preclude it. A kitten comes faster charged, and can desire to get onto and into practically the whole thing, so make certain there aren't hazardous models that it could get into. This is form of like making definite your apartment is secure for a child. Have a few form of scratching floor to be had, and the affordable cardboard ones paintings first-class for so much. If you have no idea what they're, I have published a hyperlink for a usual one. You are not looking for fancy toys. Toy bushy mice are typically very standard (get additional ones, as kittens love to push them underneath furnishings). Even matters like paper wads are toys. Use a string to lure your kitten to play, despite the fact that you could desire to hold it away while you're no longer gambling along with your kitten --your kitten would possibly then assault shoelaces even though. Kittens have intervals of extreme pastime, after which sleep for lengthy intervals of time.

Here are some tips that you might find helpful:
1- be sure to place the kitty's litterbox away from its bowl. it does not like to have the two that close together.
2- buy some toys. you don't have to go all out and buy a bunch of things, but just some mice or string or little balls will be helpful.
3- make sure there is a spot for it to hide - preferably somewhere safe. for the first few days, the kitten might be shy and will want to hide. that is totally normal. just make sure it has a good area to go (like under the bed, under the sofa or in a closet).
4- cat-proof your place. make sure the cords on your blinds are suspended high enough where the kitten cannot reach them and get tangled. secure all low cabinets that may contain cleaners. i'd also invest in some outlet covers just to be on the safe side. also, if you have anything that is delicate or valuable, put it up high. kittens like to explore everything, you wouldn't want something important to get broken.
5- to your list, i'd also add a brush, shampoo, a towel, nail clippers, and treats. it's important to have a brush for grooming purposes. if you brush yor kitten regularly, you will decrease the size of hairballs down the line. i've adopted kittens before and when they're around a lot of other cats, they can somtimes be a tad smelly. if you are BRAVE, you might want to give it a good wash when it gets home. (especially if it has been exposed to fleas, you want to wash it w/ a flea-treating shampoo and you don't want them infecting your house. ick!). the clippers are for good grooming as well. when the kitty is good, you want to reward it with treats. (but not too often they can upset your kitty's tummy if it eats too many).
I think that's about all I can think of for now. Good luck!
