The silent treatment is just a "road block" between people. If there is a situation, problem or issue between you and a person, it is wise to sit and talk about it. In high school my best friend gave me the silent treatment because of another person who made lies about me. So, I met with my best friend and had her listen to me and show her that our friendship can not be ruined because someone else wants to destroy it. Talk to that person because the silent treatment will make matters worse. If that person doesn't want to talk at that moment, then just give him/her a little time and space, they will come through sure enough. The silent treatment is bottling up and when shaken it will explode. Just hate silent treatment. Give a bit time and talk to that person. Now, if they won't talk you just talk and explain that you feel hurt about this and your feelings are important just as his/hers is too. Slowly open up in a nice way. With my best friend, I broke that terrible ice and we were best of buddies again. Friendship and family relations is too valuable to be forgotten or dropped.

I don't consider it a "silent" treatment, but when someone upsets me I usually walk away and gather my thoughts and not talk to that person until I know what comes out of my mouth is something I will not regret later. We can say hurtful things when we're upset and I don't want that, so I just don't talk!

If there is no other way to get through to someone, I think it is necessary. However, before you give them the silent treatment you should tell them everything that is on your mind. That way they know why they are getting it.

I think it's immature.
Edit: There's a difference between spending time to think about something before you get back to someone with an answer and just being a jerk and not speaking.
When you say "silent treatment" that, to me, says jerk.
If you had said reflective time that, to me, says meditation.

It's one of the most immature things I've ever experienced. I'm horrible at it, because I believe if you have a problem with someone, you need to express it, not just hold it in and let it boil into something worse.

Well it is not such agood thing cause it is a bit annoying, I mean when you talk to the person and they won't response. But it will allow you to think about it a bit so that you can make a rational decision.

I think obviously it works and it does so well enough that you would like to employ it.
