Why don't you ask your mother why she doesn't think that he's good enough for you (besides just saying that he's not "romantic enough" because a lot of guys aren't into mushy details like that!) It could be just because she's never actually had a conversation with him, that she thinks he's not good enough.
Try getting them in the same room to do something together; a board game, look at some old photo albums of you and your family, etc. Something that would give them something to talk about while hanging out together so there's not a bunch of dead air.
After hanging out with him for a bit, you may be able to get your mother to change her mind about him. If not, I would just remind my parents, that I am happy with this guy, and that should be all that really matters.

start being honest with your parents...they may never like your boyfriend, but will respect your decision if you're honest.
My dad, when I was growing up, hated my ex because he thought something must be wrong with him...all because I went behind his back to see him, lied to my dad about him. When you lie to your parents, that makes them think the same thing, that something's wrong with the guy, and nothing may be wrong with your boo,but because you lied, they think so. And it doesn't matter how romantic or attactive he is to your mom, because you're the one dating him, not her. If you're okay with those areas, then it's none of her concern. And don't come running to mama everytime you two have a bad agruement. All that does is give her something to bring up when you two get back together. You have been with the guy for a year and a half..the relationship is no longer public domain(meaning your mama doesn't have to know everything in it).She may get mad, but once you show some honesty and approach her like an adult(maybe have a meeting with her and you and your boo? Talk about it together, show her you two are serious about eachother)and it may take some time, but she will accept him as long as you show you do,too.

While its a shame that your mother is acting this way, you need to be honest with her. I think you should say just what is said here, and you should bring your b/f around more. Some parents just aren't going to ever be satisfied, but its your life, not hers. Frankly her reasons are not good enough, looks are superficial and they say nothing about the person inside.

As long as you are over 18...just tell her that you are with him and the two of you love each other. You would love for her to accept it and be happy for you, but will not quit seeing him if she doesn't. Let her know this is your choice and not hers. Maybe point out you don't want to feel like you have to choose between the two of them or that you refuse to choose between them. In time she might come around. Good luck

Maybe your mom regrets marrying your dad and she doesn't want to see you going down the same road she did. It could be there will never be a guy she thinks is worthy of you.
Just make sure you both behave and do well, and there is not much anyone can say against you.

Explain to your parents that he is going to stay in our life no matter what they say. Try taking him to your mother's house to eat.

for starters, stop telling your parents details about your relationship with him, either way.
