The government of Chancellor Merkel has no plans to send Bundeswehr troops to the Iraqi Theater of Operations. German troops are currently in Afghanistan as part of the NATO force. They also served in Bosnia and Kosovo as part of the NATO contingent.

Germany is very different from the nation that charged into war twice in the first half of the twentieth century. Today they are very reluctant to get involved in military action elsewhere in the world. They are still sensitive about their reputation left over from the World Wars and especially the Nazi legacy. Aside from a minor presence in the Middle East today, German troops are not likely to see major deployment anytime soon.

You make it sound as though it's a privelige to allow a country to have its soldiers die in a senseless illegal war that the U.S. started. You also forget that Germany is able to make its own decisions; it doesn't need to be "allowed" to do something by the U.S. Like many other countries, Germany has sensibly decided to stay out of Iraq.

Germany has no intention of helping the US. I'm sure that if they were attacked by terrorists, they might send more troops in to Afghanistan and the Middle East area.

Germany is not wild and reckless like it was during WW2.

As a German I'll have to say: thanks for the offer to fight under your control......... but no thanks!
We are not really that eager to clean up the mess you made.

@whitty: German troops are already deployed in big numbers all over the world. For example Germany has one of the biggest foreign troop contigents in Afghanistan as part of "Enduring Freedom" and ISAF.
