The 5.9 takes 12=13 qt Do not start dry fill oil filter then install.also DC & Cummings say you can go 10,000 miles between oil changes.The book & dealers say 4,000 as that was the old rattler the new 1 run cleaner.Have 2 =05 great Engs & trucks. If you can't Dodge em then Ram em

Dodge says 11 quarts, just get three gallons and you will be good. Good luck!

Probably 5 quarts. Easiest way to find out is to ask your auto parts store when you're in there buying the oil. All the major stores should have it listed somewhere on their computer. I know O'Reily's does. They can even tell you what type of oil is recommended by the factory.
