Nobody knows the exact origins of the Freemasons, not even the Masons. AFAIK the best guess is that the Fraternity started thousands of years ago with stonebuilders.

Many people believe they are a secret society with a desire and plan to usher in a one-world government that will outlaw faith in any god other than Freemasonry itself, and that their upper echelon stand in direct opposition to God Himself.

I've had occasion to "listen in" on one of their ... meetings. Most of the speakers talked about philanthropy and the fallacy of their reputation, and the truly wonderful things they do (very impressive, no denying it) but one of them I think said more than he was supposed to outside of the "secret room" and talked about the brotherhood as (I'm paraphrasing) its own religion, and actually did mention a one-world order. I have no way of knowing if he was expressing only his own opinion and desire, or if his slip was showing.

I just confused you more, didn't I?
