I want to work in the field of Bionics when i get older. I hope to create working artificial limbs controlled by the brain and cochlear implants, etc.

What type of college degree would i need? I have done some research, but the answers were vague, ranging from chemical, mechanical, biological, and biomedical engineering degrees.

I was hoping someone would be able to give me a more definitive answer. Thanks!

Biological or biomedical engineering are what you're after. These are the fields responsible for functional artificial limbs or organs.

It may also be the case that within the next few decades, nano-technology will fuse with bio-technology.

Well, Bionics is in the Field of Biomedical Engineering Degrees. If you are in High School still, I would recomend you take a college course in Electrical Engineering at a local communtiy college. That might have an introductory course in Robotics. Then go to a College of Biomed. Engineering that has a course in Bionics. Also, take Biomechanics. That will help out a lot. Study your math in school real good and listen to the teachers.

You might need to start in mechanical engineering and then specialize on biomechanics. Some colleges have biomedical programs which incorporate chemical, mechanical, and biological engineering which you listed above. Basically you need to get your feet wet first and then the specific path for you will present itself as you get more involved in school.

Work in hollywood and you could get lucky and meet the bionic man or women then your next step is to ask them if you could poke around them to see how all that techy crap works. good luck.
