I watched Shaq's Big Challenge and I was surprised that daily PE was not mandatory in Miami, Florida. In Virginia, DAILY PE is mandatory from grades 6 or 7 to 10th grade! Weekly PE is mandatory from grades K-5. Which school systems do NOT have mandatory PE?

Well, I moved throughout the midwest my entire childhood. In elementary school, it was standard that we had PE 3 times per week. In middle school, it was daily. In high school, we had to have it daily for two semesters, and then we were done unless we chose to take more.

One reason that it being mandatory is a bit less common is because of a lack of funding for schools. They have a hard enough time keeping up with the changes in classroom needs, that things like art supplies, balls, etc. have gone to the back burner.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. Even if P.E. were manditory the effect could easily be reversed by eating habits both at home and at at school. If we're going to have manditory P.E. in our schools we need to have a manditory ammount of healthy food in the cafeterias also.
