I feel sad. Pathetic. I started smoking at 14 (and quit 2 yrs ago) and I really only did it because it seemed like the thing to do. I was bored and smoking was a time taker. That's how I thought of it as an adult as well. I just think, man I hope I can keep my kids from smoking, and that it must be really hard. My mom and dad tried really hard and I got in trouble a LOT and nothing mattered. I smoked until I was 22.

I think they're stupid. I'm 16 and have never touched a cigarette, let alone smoke one. It can screw you up. If the 14 year old continues to smoke within a few years there will be minor health problems that will continue to grow. Has this 14 year old never had a health class!? I mean, seriously, enphazima, gum disease, and not to mention really smelly clothes...and breath. Nobody would want to kiss that!!! So whoever the 14 year old is, they better second guess smoking!

Well. I'm 14, and go to a non-mainstream school where the students have more freedom than a regular school. (non uniform, etc) We're allowed to smoke, just not on the premises. I don't do it because I worry that if I start, I'll get addicted. I've never touched a cigarette and don't plan to. I don't have a lot of sociality at this school because the students chat while they sit outside and smoke - and I don't like to go out there and inhale all their second hand wafts so I stay in, on my own. Boo hoo. (:
It's their life, their choice, and I've heard worse stories (an eight year old who started drugs because of her older "cool" sister) but I'm all for the smoking ban.

I started smoking at 15, and now it's 14 years later, and I can't quit. The window when it would have been easy to quit was during the time that there was no reason to quit because I really could take it or leave it then. Nicotine addiction is very deceptive that way. By the time you realize you are addicted, it's too late to stop easily. The only time I tried to quit was about 9 months after I started, and it was already too late. I estimate that over the years I've spent about $15,000 on cigarettes.

Any child who engages in activity not befiting of their age most likely lacks serious guidance. Problems at home, in school, or peer pressure can all be contributors to deviant behavior. At 14 years of age, the teenager is more than able to distinguish between right and wrong. If they think that smoking is "right," then either they know it is wrong and are going against their better judgment, or they honestly think it is right because they lacked some serious guidance when they were growing up. In my own opinion, its too late to modify a teenager's behavior. The only way to do it is if they are willing.

I'd rather they didn't but understand that peer pressure can influence their decision . If I had the opportunity I would try to convince them to stop as it is seriously damaging their health.
Do they not want to live long enough or be fit enough to play with their future grandchildren or get the benefit of enjoying retirement after finishing work . Before anyone steps in about pension .. the amount spent on fags would fund a very comfortable retirement outwith even any employer or government pension
But finally it is down to their choice if they want to continue to smoke then go ahead so long as they are mindful of those who chose not to.

I started smoking when I was between 13-14 years old; however, I highly discourage the habit. It has been a habit that has cost me lots of money and is now starting to have negative effects on my health, and I am only 27 now. I discourage anyone who considers picking up the habit and ask that they question themselves as to why they would want to start such a nasty and expensive habit.

a 14 year old smoker will die of cancer or some other smoke related illness at an early age. dying at 50 might not be a problem to a 14 year old but its cause for concern aged 49 ,,,,,,

I think, if they continue to smoke, they will have serious problems later on. You think when you are older that it doesn't matter, but trust me it does!!! I ruined my health smoking and I am spending the days that I should be able to enjoy, going to doctors, taking medicine, feeling lots of pain and am going to the hospital, yet again. Most of these problems are a direct, or indirect, cause from cigarettes. Good luck.
