Howdy,
Yes, beans do give people gas. I answered this question last year for Ask Yahoo! and found that "beans contain sugars the human body simply cannot digest." These sugars are called oligosaccharides and once they reach the lower intestines, "the bacteria go berserk, start feasting, and make loads of gas."
During my original research, I did find a recipe for preparing dry baked beans. Though I've never had dry baked beans, apparently they enable you to enjoy the musical fruit without the stinky side effects. Recipe included below.
enjoy!

Yes, beans do make you fart!
Supposedly it is the outer layer of the beans. A bean has a slick coating on it and this coating is what makes you fart. It is made up of a series of complex sugars which are not easily digested by the enzymes in the human stomach. However, when these complex sugars reach the lower intestine they meet with some nasty bacteria and are completely beaten down. This is where the gas comes from!
Now you know it - beans do make you fart!
here is my answer...hahah

Yes and no.
Beans make people fart if the people have destroyed their digestive bacteria. If you've ever taken antibiotics, like tetracycline or any other, you have disrupted the intestinal flora, or destroyed all the beneficial ones.
You can take probiotics (dietary supplements containing potentially beneficial bacteria or yeast, with lactic acid bacteria (LAB) as the most common microbes used - wikipedia) to restore the intestinal flora. I used acidopholis pearls plus deoderized garlic capsules and within a month all the issues I had with beans, tomato sauce, and other digestive problems either disappeared or were greatly reduced. It actually worked. I was happily surprised. I recommend this to anyone.
