Exercise is key. Suggest jumping rope since it is inexpensive and can be done almost anywhere. You can also get a talking pedometer for about $12.95 at Walmart to inspire you to stay on track. It announces how many steps taken according to your stride length (you enter this info. into pedometer and it can then calculate), calories burned, time elapsed, and distance. The goal is to work up to 10,000 steps per day (about 5 mi.). Eat nothing after 6:00 p.m. because food consumed at night doesn't have chance to be used as energy before going to bed. Try to follow a sound diet, such as South Beach, that includes all the basic food groups, so you will stay healthy. Fad diets don't work in long run and you want something you can live with rest of your life. South Beach diet can be researched on Internet, or book can be checked out of public library. Paperback book can also be bought at WalMart for about $6.95. This diet stresses lean meats, nothing fried. No white sugar, flour or rice. Green vegetables. Whole grain wheat bread. Take Multivitamin daily. If you can find a diet buddy to compare notes with, encourage each other, and exercise with it will also help you stay on the diet. Play music with a good beat on an MP-3 or Ipod when you walk. It helps you to walk a little faster, and do it a little longer--especially if you have to do it alone. It is very important to get the weight off while you are young and skin has elasticity to shrink and be firm. If you wait till you are older, your skin will be less elastic and you will end up looking flabby with loose hanging skin. This is true and I am saying it as a warning, and as a scare tactic to picture yourself as older looking fab or flab. Your choice.

How tall is he/she? My 14 year old weighs 145, but he is 5'10, and he skates and bikes. Weighing 120 at 13 may not be a bad thing, depending on levels and types of activity, height and build, and other factors.

I would look into it just to be on the safe side. You know teens are obsessed about their body weight and it is not normal to drop the weight so fast.
