This is a debate that I dont know the answer to. All I can say is that I was born straight. And every straight person I know was born that way. If your sexuality is not your choice then why are you punishable in gods eyes for being gay?

Rather than offend homosexuals by directly confronting the issue of their sinful lifestyle, modern evangelism often tries to soften the approach by saying that "God hates the sin, but loves the sinner." This isn’t a new concept.

Charles Finney stated, "God is not angry merely against the sin abstracted from the sinner, but against the sinner himself. Some persons have labored hard to set up this ridiculous and absurd abstraction, and would fain make it appear that God is angry at sin, yet not at the sinner. He hates the theft, but loves the thief. He abhors adultery, but is pleased with the adulterer. Now this is supreme nonsense. The sin has no moral character apart from the sinner. The act is nothing apart from the actor. The very thing that God hates and disapproves is not the mere event—the thing done in distinction from the doer; but it is the doer himself. It grieves and displeases Him that a rational moral agent, under His government, should array himself against his own God and Father, against all that is right and just in the universe. This is the thing that offends God. The sinner himself is the direct and the only object of his anger."

So the Bible shows. God is angry with the wicked [Psalm 7:11], not with the abstract sin. If the wicked turn not, God will whet His sword—He has bent His bow and made it ready—not to shoot at the sin, but the sinner—the wicked man who has done the abominable thing. This is the only doctrine of either the Bible or of common sense on this subject" (The Guilt of Sin).

The biblical way to witness to a homosexual is not to argue with him about his lifestyle but to use the Law to bring the knowledge of sin. This will show him that he is guilty of breaking God’s holy Law, and he is damned not because of, but despite his sexual preference. The Law was made for homosexuals, as well as other lawbreakers. See Psalm 5:5 and 2 Peter 2:6–8 footnotes.

You can't chose to be gay. Its genetics. You can choose to do activities that are associated with homosexuality, but what sex you're attracted to is not a choice.

I don't know why Yahweh would punish people for being born a certain way, but I guess thats why I'm not Christian.
I'm Pagan, and we're very accepting of the Gay community.

Everything you do every day is your choice. It is not forced upon you by anyone. The devil will tempt you in many ways, and homosexual feelings may be one of these ways. But the Lord says, "God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." 1 Corinthians 10:13

So you see, if you ask God to help you, you can bear the temptations put before you. It is not by anyones will other than your own that you give into your homosexual urgings.

I dunno, is it your choice whether or not you wanna sodomize or get sodomized?

God doesn't necessarily punish you for a desire - it's acting upon a desire (because you dwelled on it too long) that makes you punishable.

I tend to be an angry and aggressive person, which usually makes me semi-violent. Should I use that as a cop-out and say that I was born that way, or should I rely on God to give me the strength to be peacefull???

Did God tell you it was punishable, or was it people that claimed to speak for God?

Don't work from rumors, those people aren't sane.

They think they're oppressed but have churches everywhere I go. They determine the outcome of American elections but think of themselves as hated. They've determined most of the laws in this country but because they didn't make all of them they pretend to be powerless.

Do you really think it's a good idea to listen to any claim they have about what God thinks of you? It's just manipulation.

It is not a choice- you cannot control your sexual preferences.
Who says God will punish you for being gay?
Some homophobics like to quote scripture, but there is no theological basis for their opinions.
The church teaches that it is the sexual practices that are sinful, not the sinner!

Christians will tell you that God expects gay people to overcome their challenges, Christians are expected to overcome theirs, and everyone has their own challenges given to them by God.

I didn't choose to be straight, I choose not to engage in gay sex, and I don't have any religion counseling me one way or the other.

It is a choice
Even the scientist say so in the latest Medical Journals.

It is a choice brought on by a person's enviroment such as who they surround themselves with, etc. They also now say there is no gay gene.

A gay person chooses to be gay and can choose to change that lifestyle if they so desire

God does not create a person with homosexual desires. The Bible tells us that a person becomes a homosexual because of sin (Romans 1:24-27), and ultimately because of their own choice. A person may be born with a greater susceptibility to homosexuality, just as people are born with a tendency to violence and other sins. That does not excuse the person choosing to sin by giving into their sinful desires. If a person is born with a greater susceptibility to anger / rage, does that make it right for then to give into those desires? Of course not! The same is true for homosexuality.
