I hear this all the time, Christians whining about how their rights are being taken away. What rights are you being denied? The right to marry? No, that's the gays, thanks to you people. The right to your symbol on your headstone? No, that's the Wiccans, thanks to you people.

What rights are you being denied?

LabGrrl I realize Wiccans can now have the pentacle on the marker, but it took a long, drawn-out UNNECESSARY process.

Reportbot, they CAN pray in school, there's a moment of silence at the beginning of the day where they can pray if they want to so don't give me that crap.

And courthouse walls are city/state property.

Sassinya, "In God We Trust" was added to money in the 1950's. This country was NOT founded on Christian principles.

Wow
There are 100's....but a few of my biggies are

We can't Havre the Ten Commandments posted in public
We can't pray in school
and so on and so forth

I know your answer will be that we would be imposing our beliefs on you...........not true.......don't read, don't listen and don't participate.............but don't stop us from doing what we believe...

An example to prove my point............those who want secular, especially dirty stuff are totally allow to post whatever they choose in spite of it offending Christians........

No difference.........

I'm sure it has to do with the area in which you live in but I live in the Philadelphia area and I can tell you several examples of Christians losing their freedoms. A small local storefront sized church had to remove their neon sign that said "Jesus is Lord" because a Muslim man across the street was offended by it. A billboard advertising a church with the slogan "All that you need is all that He is" had to take it down and now the billboard sports a half naked lady and a bottle of Bacardi which is "less offensive" :/
Kids here cannot bring a Bible to school, but they can bring a Harry Potter book. Most high schools in the area have stopped holding Baccalaureate services before graduation, because they are of a religious nature (many religions are represented) even though no student was required to attend.. I could go on.. but this will do for now.

The one thing that bothers me is in schools. Christians cant speak of God openly.

For example if im in biology class and the subject of evolution is brought up if I try to talk about creationism then im told to stop. Which has happened. Im sorry but both sides need to be explored.

And by the way many people from other religions are against gay marriage not just christians and as for wiccans. They can have their books in the library shelfs but christians cant. This is the same for just about any other religion. I have never heard of anyone being opposed to a symbol on a headstone but thats your Business what you put on your headstone.

Anyways arent you whining right now? It swings both ways.

"and we can't have it in the pledge of allegience as has always been custom"

No, actually "under God" was only added to the Pledge in 1954, during the Cold War, after a campaign by the Knights of Columbus.

Nice attempt at revisionist history, though.

----------

"For example if im in biology class and the subject of evolution is brought up if I try to talk about creationism then im told to stop. [...] Im sorry but both sides need to be explored."

Why does only YOUR creation story need to be explored? Why not any other creation story? Why does it have to be Genesis, instead of, say, Ginnungagap and Niflheim and Muspelheim?

----------

"We can't Havre the Ten Commandments posted in public
We can't pray in school"

If you post the Ten Commandments, then you also post any other religious tenets that are out there. If you get to pray to your God in school, then I get to pray to my Goddess in school.

If you're fine with that, then good. If you have a problem with that, then why should YOU get YOUR religious beliefs represented, but not anyone else's?

----------

"Kids here cannot bring a Bible to school, but they can bring a Harry Potter book."

Are you inferring that the Bible is in the same category as a FICTION book? Is that REALLY where you want to go?

You are very right. My rights aren't being denied. This is something that bugs me about other Christians. They whine and complain about how we aren't allowed to pray in school. No one is allowed to pray in school. And, I don't want the sacred act of my prayer to be distorted by making it part of school rules. I don't feel any less Christian because my government wants to remove 10 commandment stones from courthouses or anything else like that. I don't feel any less Christian when I cannot pray in a public school. I feel a little embarrassed with other Christians start using the American flag as a symbol of faith rather than it just standing for this country. It's annoying and frustrating when my fellow Christians use this government as an extension of the evangelical church.

I agree with the question, Christians say they are being denied rights, but they're the ones taking everything away from others. They took their ritual system, holidays, and concepts from the pagans. They have banned gays from marriage, and (not all but most) try and force their ways and beliefs on everyone.

They need to stop belly aching and look around at those who truly have had their privileges taken away and look with and opened mind and heart, maybe then they will see they have it good compared to those of us who are gay and wiccan.

Well we can't have prayer in school anymore.... and we can't have it in the pledge of allegiance as has always been custom, they are trying to get in God we trust off our money so pretty soon that'll be gone.... all the principles that the country was founded on are leaving little by little.....

You win some and you lose some....
Get over it.

Okay Miss Intelligence.... whatever you say to make yourself feel better....

It was found that the Act of Congress dated January 18, 1837, prescribed the mottoes and devices that should be placed upon the coins of the United States. This meant that the mint could make no changes without the enactment of additional legislation by the Congress. In December 1863, the Director of the Mint submitted designs for new one-cent coin, two-cent coin, and three-cent coin to Secretary Chase for approval. He proposed that upon the designs either OUR COUNTRY; OUR GOD or GOD, OUR TRUST should appear as a motto on the coins. In a letter to the Mint Director on December 9, 1863

I dunno. I always believed I had complete freedom in Christ.

If I wanna pray then I pray.

If I wanna party then I party.

I guess some complain about politics because not everyone has it their own way like Burger King.

Like, they want their message to be the only answer. I'm sure not all feel this way though. I don't.

Maybe if one day I face death for my beliefs I might complain some but it is not unexpected, from my point of view.

For one, the freedom to live according to our religious beliefs. People tend to get fired from jobs if they refuse to work on the Sabbath, etc.
There have been moves by government to attempt to remove the tax exempt status of churches.
I'm sure others will come up with something.

Actually, we won the headstone thing.

Many Christians have a special kind of right, called a Special Right, that they alone think they are entitled to....it usually involves telling someone else what to do.

Actually, several groups still haven't won their version of the headstone crusade.

The right to impose their religion onto others. The right to control the government with "born again" political leaders. The right to judge and discriminate against those who dont believe what they believe.
