In the US? Most road signs are not triangular. Yield signs and no passing are but other regulatory, warning or info signs are square, rectangular, diamond shaped, or the six sided STOP sign.

It's a cost thing. Instead of having to make different cutting dies for the sign, they only have to have one common die. That's why a lot of signs are triangles and rectangular.

All wsigns are NOT rectangular. If you look again I think you'll find that signs are of varied shapes. this allows motorists to tell what type of sign it is before being able to read what's on the sign.
