Yes, the min age is 21 but don't get discouraged. I live in Onondaga county which is mostly the Syracuse area and I picked up my Full Carry pistol permit today. It only took two months to process. There are no special permits for military, I looked, I am in the National Guard. Take the time from now till you turn 21 and get involved with gun clubs in your area. A lot of people there will be helpful when it is time to apply. Take advantage of any range safety courses and keep the certificate to turn in when you apply. Don't Get Into Trouble, the less you have done is the less you will have to explain. When filling out the application back up the things you say with proof, ie certificates and awards. Don't LIE they will find out.

I wish you the best of luck and pass this info around. It is not impossible to get a permit.

Three years from now???????????

Not a chance. The place I shoot at allows only pellets guns and .22's at the outdoor range. Indoors only pellet guns. Limited space and limited safety features. Even if it is an air pistol... they insist on you being 21.
There is talk of allowing .17 rimfires and .22 magnums in the future, if they upgrade the facility.
They only rent a few select pellet guns.
This is the reality of NY. Limited space. Super strict laws. I think it is OK, because there's too many knuckleheads here. There are states you can travel to and rent... take a vacation.

No. For handguns the minimum age in any state is 21. New York will most likely have additional restrictions beyond just age.

No. Not in NY, or anywhere else can an eighteen yr old obtain one. When you turn 21 you can. Sorry about the bad news. The only exception is for military personnel, and they have restrictions to go along with carrying them in that scenario.

Nobody can get a permit in NY. The cops can carry guns for protection and the criminals can because they are criminals. The honest taxpaying voting citizen is just screwed; they are victims of violence and robbery and if they dare defend themselves they really catch hell from the liberal left wingers. Do no business in NYC, urge all people you know to avoid the place like Soddam & Gommarah, spend no money there, urge everybody else to do likewise. It is not a nice place to go and it is unsafe and not wise to risk your life there.

Here in PA, you have to be 21 to buy a pistol, in NY, it should be the same.

You should ask the New York City Police.
