We can implore to the pope that they, as human beings, be allowed to have normal heterosexual relationships-- like getting married--- so they don't prey on young naive boys!

The problem is not that priests molest young people - this problem applies to people from all walks of life. The *true* problem is that the church knowingly shields molesting priests. For that, the church is paying out big bucks. IMHO, church leadership need to be brought up on criminal charges. Perhaps then - when higher ups in The One True Religion are spending time in prison - there will be a directed effort within the church to address it when the situation arises.

The pedophilia problem is not on priests alone. But to answer your question in regards to priests, I think that this happens after years and years of supressed sexual instinct. Celibacy is unnatural and Catholocism teaches repression of natural urges and instincts. The only real solution I see would be to allow catholic priests to marry. And, of cours, supervision of your children whenever they are in the company of an adult...male or female...priest, doctor, whatever.

Not all Catholic Priests molest kids, A better question would be how can we get sexual abuse in general to stop? I mean not to be a jerk here, but I mean if a police officer molested a Kid does that mean all cops do it? Or if a Janitor? I mean I'm not even Christian but I think that Priests get a bad wrap.

It's not just Catholic priests that sexually abuse. A better question would be how do we stop pedophiles from sexually abusing? Good luck. 2D

No. This is not dilemma is not limited to any one faith or organization. Like any criminal transgressing God's Law, pedophiles have an addiction to perversions that can only be broken if they surrender and repent to Jesus. Pedophiles will go through any means and seek the least path of resistance and discovery to satisfy their vile addictions. They are truly agents of the adversary in the lowest form of human possible. God weeps at their behavior.

It's not just Catholic priests. Please get your facts straight and stop the witch hunt.

There are MORE Protestant clergy then Catholic priests that have committed acts of sexual abuse.

For example, the most cited survey of sexual problems among the Protestant clergy shows that 10 percent have been involved in sexual misconduct and "about two or three percent" are "pedophiles." With regard to the "pedophile" problem, the figure for the Catholic clergy, drawn from the most authoritative studies, ranges between .2 percent to 1.7 percent. Yet we hear precious little about these comparative statistics.

It is not a Catholic problem it, it is a problem of our society as a whole. If you watch Dateline you'll see that there are men from all walks of life showing up to abuse children and young people.

Additionally, these Catholic cases seem large because they are going back almost 70 years. There is no other organization that could be sued like the Catholic Church in this situation. The Catholic Church is large, where as protestant denominations are small and many. When a protestant pastor abuses a child or young person, it is handled locally. No national media coverage.

I saw a program on the news about coaches abusing children. Apparently it's a huge problem. This man had written a book about it. But there is no large coaches organization to sue. So, again...it's a small local issue. http://www.mediarelations.k-state.edu/WEB/News/Webzine/0202/sexualabuse.html

According to statistics teachers are the largest group of perpetrators. Again...who do you sue? The local school or school district. No national coverage. http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/4/5/01552.shtml

Lets stop trying make it Catholic problem and see it for what it is. It's a national problem for all of us. We need to educate ourselves and our children.

Why does everyone think its only the Catholic Church this happens in?? Just because its the most publisized on the news doesn't make it true. Americans need to think for themselves and little more.
And the same way that any of them should be stopped. I don't care WHERE its happening only that it IS happening. They all need to be addressed.

Use the zero tolerancy policy on those (put in harsh censored phrase here).

No punishment is to great for them.
