Well, I don't agree with the people who said it would be harder to deal with if a chld "left the faith." I don't think there's anything worse than the death of a child, even if it's not my own.
No, the people who answered the other way can't be reasoned with. Yes, it's better for the CHILD to die innocent, in the long run, but what about everyone left behind? Heaven is a small consolation, especially when it's so far away, if it even exists at all. I believe it exists, but that doesn't mean it actually does.

I dont think anyone can judge what they would do if in that situation, do you turn your back on everything you have been taught and teach.....even to your child, and maybe the one thing that gives you hope your child will live(whether in this life or another) or do you trust in medical science, something that also can be wrong and a doctor to whom your child is just another patient, I am a mother, and instead of asking question that provoke hate and anger, you should be praying (or hoping if you dont have a faith) that this situation does not have a chance to come up in your family.
The only dangerous thing is how quickly people hate and judge others.

Just the though of something happening to my child makes me weep. The problem is that these people are extremists and there is no reasoning with extremists of any kind. These people who answered that way have NO idea the pain of loosing a child. I don't know the pain either, but I would never say anything so heinous. It seems to diminish the pain that those who have suffered this loss go through. Every person who answered that way should have to be confronted by a parent who has lost their child. When confronted with the reality of losing a child perhaps they would realize how serious this really is.

Its not just Christianity. If you look at this question on a worldwide spectrum, ALL organized religions have a fundamentalist faction, and when this mind set infiltrates an otherwise logical mind, reason is sometimes lost. It is not logical or reasonable to put your faith before the health of your children. However, your question is a big black and white. Why would someone have to abandon Christianity completely? Are you asking about the sects and cults that have illogical fundemental beliefs like Jehovah Wittnesses? I have no idea what you are trying to say now that I look back at the question. I would think seeing a child die would be 100% worse than abandoning a religion... but then again, I do not believe in any "god" type fairy tale, so again, probably not the best one to answer this question.
As with reasoning with them, there is no reasoning with Fundies, so, sometimes its better to just let them do what they need to do rather than drive yourself insane trying to reason with them.

This isn't surprising, since in the Christian belief system, death of the physical body, is the beginning of an eternal life in heaven if they are Christian, and the beginning of eternal torment if they are not.
Since we all die eventually, the REAL question is, would you rather see your child in heaven or hell ? How can you expect ANYONE who believes in heaven or hell to prefer their child spend eternity in hell ?
Since I am not a Christian, I don't believe any of that stuff, but the answers don't surprise me. I would only be concerned if a parent would murder their child if they thought they might abandon their faith at some point, in order to "save" them. (Much like the deluded Andrea Yates did)
You asked a loaded question, what kind of answers did you really expect ?
I don't think their answer is much different than people who would rather see their loved ones die, than to live for years in a PVS state, or a coma, or suffering from a painful terminal disease. To many people, death is preferable to suffering. Since life is eternal to people who are Christian, they would prefer to that which THEY PERCIEVE to be the lesser suffering of their child.

Humankind have created their own miths, most of them in a wrong manner, life is priceless and no matter if the people be from Africa, Asia, America or Europe, everybody deserves to live, to abandon somebody to die just because doesn't think like others is criminal, religions have nothing to do with this behavior, is a matter of humanity, all of us come from the God's Creation, he didn't marked anyone with stigmas, those kind of social aberrations are part of the reason of all the wars the humankind have suffered along our history.
Nothing like open minds without the influence of dogmas

Faith cannot be reasoned with...
Faith is not reason.
But, just so you know, that was a horrible question to ask and as I answered it.... I had no right or wrong answer.
It sort of sickens me that it was even asked. It's one of those questions that you are damned if you do, and if you don't. Which is why people like that ask those questions, so that they can later point and say what horrible people Christians are. Fact is, we really shouldn't answer such filth in the first place.

In general Christians believe that if one dies and is a true Christian they will be either ressurected later or go on to Heaven where they will be perfect. If one dosn't stay a christian they believe that he will either lose the chance for Eternal life in a paradise Earth, or go to hell. Basically if they leave God they won't have any chance of seeing them again, so they believe.

It is not that one wishes the child would die. You have to look at it from the perspective. . . of "Would you rather your child live a long life and spend eternity in hell" or "Would you rather your child live a short life and spend eternity in heaven". . .That is my guess on how the "fundies" view this question.
Being a mother myself. . .I chose not to answer it because death of my children is something I don't want to think about for even a split second. . .the thought of it makes me that sad.

Maddness!!! I would never let my child die.
