I am just curious as to if any of you would call on a friend.

personally I would. no matter how good of a friend it is i would feel the responsibility to protect the children.

i have a friend who witnesssed a friend of hers beating her child and instead of calling CPS she just told her she didn't want to see it again.

I don't care how close i am to any person, if they're abusing a child in any shape or form, something needs to be done. I'd call anybody i had to, to keep the child safe.

Well, first I would try to get her help as fast as I could, if I knew she was normally a loving and caring mother. And I would remove the child, or call dad to watch them.

If the mother didn't seek help right away, or didn't seem upset by what she did, I would call CPS.

Bring CPS into a family can ruin and destroy it forever, and if it was a one time occurance and mother needed help I would try to get it for her before calling CPS.

Just how I feel.

I actually reported my own sister-in-law. I was able to do it anonymously, but basically, I did it for the kids.

I'm so glad I did. That whole family is completely turned around. The parents had to take classes and the kids qualified for free dental/medical care and free breakfast/lunch at school, plus some extra help for behavioral and learning disabilities. Now the kids are healthy. The parents have good jobs. Everything is going great.

As a teacher, mother, and human being... I would definitely talk to my friend, why are they doing this. think about what their normal personality is like, is she aggressive, patient, etc. ...what has been going on in their life that they are making such a wrong decision. I would ask them to seek counseling, I would offer to take the children for the day and to let her know that whenever she feels frustrated or feels she may hurt the children or herself to call me and I can come help. Let her know she is not alone and offer your help.
However, if someone does this in front of someone else, it may mean they don't think it is that shameful...therefore, I think it is important to contact CPS.

A child is always more important. I would call CPS on my own sister if necessary! How would you feel if something horrible happened to the child, knowing you could have prevented it??? Nope, I don't want that regret hanging over my head. I would definitely call!

If I felt like my friend was harming their child I would absolutely call CPS on them. If I just let it go it would bother me and I'd feel very guilty about it, especially if something happened to the child.

You have a legal and moral obligation to report this. Even if your friend won't report it, you need to report it. Take it from someone who was abused as a kid and didn't have anyone stick up for her. You should do the right thing.

I would report it because chances are others won't and the one who suffers is the child. There are some situations that are just unforgivable.
