Because it is just a story. Jesus was dead for decades before "John" (or whoever wrote in his name) authored that story. Satan is also just a superstition.

John 14:31 seems to be more of a continuation of John 14:30 than another thought. the KJV has them seperated, where the NAB doesn't.
30
I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me,
31
but the world must know that I love the Father and that I do just as the Father has commanded me. Get up, let us go.
and just who is this ruler he is talking about? it is our flesh, our sin nature. because in Genesis 1:26 when God creates man, he makes him ruler over all the earth. ie. the carnal, worldly man is prince.
it also sounds as if christ is telling us his flesh has no power over him, is this true? well according to Mark 1:13 he was tempted 40 days and did not succomb.
so was his time limited? just as much as all of our earthly time is limited. however in Revelation 1:8 he says i am he who is, was, and is to come. he is the begining and the end.
1 Corinthians 15:41-45 paul tells us how we are born in this corrupt flesh but born again into the spritual. being made into the image of God.

Prophecy limited his time and he had so much to do. Jesus was and is very busy. There is an old radio expression, "Guiding Light is right behind us." Meaning other events were piling up and coming right behind so keep moving on.

He knew he was going to be tempted.
He also knew that he would be able to withstand it.
His time was of God the fathers to determine as
he does what the father commands.
