The hijab reflects modesty, purity and respect; it lessens temptation so that more serious sins will be avoided; it protects women from the harm and molestation of evil men; a woman who wears hijab will be evaluated for her intelligence and skills rather than her appearance.
One important aspect that is often overlooked, however, is that the hijab is a symbol of Muslim identity. A woman who covers her head is making a statement that she is a member of the Muslim community and that she follows a particular code of moral conduct.
Allah says: "O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their outer garments around them. That is more suitable that they will be known (as Muslims and chaste believing women) and not be abused." [Qur'an, 33:59]
"...that they will be known..." In America, where Islam is the fastest growing religion (alhumdullilah), many people are coming to know what this head covering really signifies and to understand the religion that mandates it.

When you r mind is grilled to believe , any kind of evidence will not make a difference. It works for you good, but it may not be that way for all. You are willing to accept a life style that dictates how a woman should behave and you are ok with it, but all women of earth cannot fit into this life style, because each one has had different experiences of knowledge, experience and exposure to life situations. And wisdom comes from reasoning. When there is no reasoning and self confidence it is easy to be followers because its all about going to heaven. Once a muslim everyone heads straight to the waiting room of heaven. All; these rituals are the fear of hell.
Hijab reflects, control, self deception, fear and dominance! Harmones are there in men and women, do you think women do not think of sex in their hijabs? Seeing sexy looking men dont you have sexual thoughts? Why should not men also cover up??? If Men also covered perhaps there wil be no sin at all, just a suggestion.
Who said other wise there will be no evaluation of the mind if one does not wear Hijab?? And why do one needs identity? Any good religion will not focus on Identity because God sent us on this earth with out identiy for us to find who and what we are, we dont even have names nor are we clothed, we are all born naked. And once the child is born the world feeds us with all kinds of nasty things, you are muslim he is jew so and so is christian and he is hindu, the mind is pollluted ever after,.
Relgions is a path to god, between you and the creater, and it is very personal.
The most miserably abused women are Muslims, because they are in acceptance of all the dominance and that is sad. They cover, they obey, they follow, they do everything yet they are the abused lot. Its time they come out of their cover and take control of their lives. Inherently humanity is soft, every individual is beautiful from within, we all have divine natural awareness, if we hear our own voices that constantly speaks to us we will understand god. Every human being is a prophet because each one brings us experiences and it is through experiences we all grow and in growth we experience divine truth. Let us all coexist and respect differences and not say "I am holier than though".

Did you know that Christians are also required by the new and old testament to weak head coverings also?
Up until the last few centuries christian women have always worn coverings. Now that "women's lib" is the theme of the day christian women have put away their coverings to be as the world is being.
1Cr 11:5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with [her] head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
Women today will say their hair is the covering but if that is so accoring to the above verse is she has not covering (or hair) how can she be shaved?
Other "christians" will say thet Paul was only talking about the women in his time but if that is so how do we take any of the bible seriously if we start choosing times we will obey the bible.
The fact is the women in Pauls time took heed and kept their coverings and it has remained that way up until the end of the 1800s when the church has begun a slippery slope into hell.

Honestly, while I find the cultural aspect interesting, I couldn't care less what other people wore to reflect faith/affiliation/membership for anything. I am glad that Muslim women have a custom to tie them to their culture and faith, but what business is it of mine what they wear? So to answer your question: No, I have never wondered why Muslim women wear hijab.

The hijab doesn't reflect purity, modesty and respect of the person who wears it. It pretends that men are incapable of seeing a woman without raping her. It pretends that men are completely incapable of acting in a civilized and respectful manner unless the pieces of property known as women are completely covered.
I can cover my head and still act immoral, so don't pretend as if appearance and action are the same thing.
Who added "as Muslims and chaste believing women"? Quote the whole Qur'an, not your interpretation of it. Don't put words into your prophet's mouth. Isn't that blasphemy?
Islam is not the fastest growing religion in the US.

Not really. I always keep my arms covered to at least my elbows and won't wear shirts that expose much below my collarbone as a similar sign of modesty, so I empathize.

sister u forgot to mention hijab is not only a scarf. it is u as a person. it is the way u walk,talk, and act. it is the way u respect ppl. before u wear a scarf u must master ur "inner" hijab. men have hijab too. they must avoid making contact with haraam and protect there muslim sisters from the bad men.

every time and culture has their own style of dress.
i never could get into fashion myself.
i just wear what is comfortable.
i dont understand why we should be arrested
