"Why do Catholic nuns dress the way they do?"

"Did you know that in the Canon laws of the Catholic church today there is a law that requires women to cover their heads in church?"

"Have you read in I Corinthians (Bible, 11:3-10) the verses that Paul wrote: 'Every man who prays of prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. And evey woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head - it is just as though her head were shaved. If a woman doesn't cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or shaved off, she should cover her head."

"Did you know that there are some Christian denominations, namely the Amish and the Mennonites, who still require women to wear the head covering?"

"Were you aware that is was the custom of Jewish women to go out in public with a head covering and that some denominations still practice this today?"

These discussion points demonstrate the obvious fact that the head cover was not introduced by Islam, but rather that this requirement has been in place for thousands of years. This can also be a cogent segue to more crucial topics such as the fact that Moses, alayhes salam, Jesus, alayhes salam and Muhammad, sallalahu allahe wa salam, were all prophets of the same God and that they each carried the same basic message. Islam corrected the errors that had been introduced into previous revelations by humans and completed the process that was planned by Allah.

If all Christians followed what's in their Holy Bible, it would be hard to differentiate between a Muslim woman and a Christian Woman. It just shows us Message of God Almighty was one for all times. Muslims practice it while other preach it. God is with those who sincerely practice His commandments.

No, I never wondered that. It was a cultural thing.

And perhaps you should read on in 1 Corinthians, starting with verse 13:
Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering.

And the idea of women covering themselves was not necessarily for every day use, but while they were praying. And Paul was saying that just her long hair can be used as a covering.

Yes, I'm aware that some denominations still use head coverings. That's between them and God. I feel no guilt for the way I dress, because I do dress modestly.

Maybe Mary did cover her head. I can't show you a verse from the Bible to prove that she did. That doesn't mean she was a Muslim. Even if I could find the verse from the Bible that says Mary covered her head, you probably would not believe it. You believe the Koran instead of the Bible. You would be a Christian if you believed the Bible. You would believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. You are attempting to prove a fact with words from a book that you don't believe. That's not possible.

God Bless you...

Nice bit of mischief, that...

One of the things that Christ came to do was set us free of the law, which cannot save us. Only FAITH in Jesus, who was GOD INCARNATE, saves. So yes, there were restrictions on women's clothing back in the day, but as Christians, we are free from the law.

Now, the letter to Corinth that you quote sure seems like a commandment that men should not pray with a hat on, and that women should be covered. But these were written as a specific instruction to that church, as it was their CUSTOM.

Paul constantly tells us throughout his epistles that these things do not matter...what does matter is your relationship to God. If something like this is causing division in a Church, then it needs to be dealt with.

Paul is consistently clear in ALL of his writings--we are free of the law--whether that is regarding dress codes or eating habits or circumcision.

I was told once by a Muslim that Jesus came to teach the Jews to turn away from legalism and to love God. If that is true, my Muslim friend, why have the Muslims become even more legalistic than the Pharisees?

Islam tells its women to dress modestly. It does not force them to cover their heads, that was a tradition in the middle east that was taken into the culture that came. People in the middle east were expected to have the womens head covered for centuries before even judaism came into being. Islam claims to correct the errors that have been made by the previous people but so to does every religion nearly.

Actually, yes I was aware that head covering was not introduced by Islam.

But your conclusions, I do not agree with. Jesus is the Son of God, not a prophet.

And before that it was animal furs. As time goes on Man adapts and PROGRESSES. That is a very primitive form of dress. Some are stuck in the dark ages.

P.S. And don't forget to circumcise all the women too.

You seem to say this as if it were a huge surprise. Everyone knows that islam came along approximately 600 years after Christianity, and much of their religion is borrowed from Christianity and the Jews.

Nuns dress the way they do for modesty.

Canon Law has not addressed women wearing veils since 1983

Wearing veils isn't required for women in prayer - it is still acceptable, but not required.

You see, unlike Islam, Christianity has moved out of the dark ages.

I have wondered why muslims claim Jesus was a prophet when they apparently believe he wasn't being truthful when he told his disciples he was going to die.... Finding the correct answer to that is more important than what clothing Mary wore, I assure you.

The clothing issue aside, you are right when you say Moses was a prophet but your are wrong when you say that Jesus was a prophet. Jesus came to fulfill prophecy, He is the Son of God. Moses was not and neither was Muhammad, only Jesus the Christ.
