I don't think so, not effectively anyway. (Except for on this forum...which I think some do rather effectively, by misleading non-believers and giving Christianity a bad name.)

No ! You cannot fake the Blessing and the Peace of the Holy Ghost once It has moved into your heart and soul ! If you were an atheist , and you tried to fake being a Christian , you would give yourself away immediately in your words and deeds that associate you with the world ! You would not be a new creature in Christ , and that`s something that you cannot fake ! You can`t hide the real atheist in you by pretending to be a Christian ! Once you are a Born again True Christian , you would never to go back to the ways of a sinful world ! There are only two people that I know that have fooled themselves into thinking they have fooled everyone else into believing they were Christians , Rev Al , and Rev Jackson !

It is good to walk in others shoes to understand them, but we should not be lead astray. And, I don't think anyone can fake being a Christian, anymore than I could fake being an atheist, I just love the Lord too much, to fake it. God knows when someones heart isn't right.
We (as Christians) should know the Fruits of the Spirit and, we also have discernment.

God Bless You

True Christians should be distinct, with something "different" about them, causing others to see who they are and be drawn to it.

Unfortunately, Christianity has become so warped in the minds and lives of both believers and unbelievers, it is relatively easy to "fake" Christianity, with even fellow church members, who have known you for years, never realizing you're not actually a Christian.

It's a relatively well-known fact that from an intellectual standpoint, many athiests are more knowledgeable of the Bible than Christians are. It doesn't get to their hearts and beliefs, but it's "an interesting read". That knowledge is a pretty powerful tool for someone who would want to fake Christianity.

Oh, easily. I have personally seen it done by someone I know very well. He's been an atheist all his life but probably knows more about christianity than most christians do, having studied it and read about it extensively in college and life. He can discuss the bible with the best of them, though he doesn't believe it was written by God.

He has climbed the ladder politically and socially, convincing all the conservative christians who live in our Texas county that he is one of them.

He also happens to be one of the best, most decent people I've ever met. He's a great dad and a generous businessman. He gives unstintingly of his time, money and support to friends in need and donates frequently to charities. He has a patience with people I have never seen in anyone else. A patience I certainly don't have, myself.

He's a really good guy and not because he believes it will buy his way into heaven. He just is because he knows it is the right way to be.

I suspect if there is a Jesus, he would be more approving of this guy's life than the life of most "real" christians I have met and known.

I do not think that an atheist could effectively fake being a Christian. As the Scripture says, "Out of the mouth come the issues of the heart" (I forget the reference). Over time, I believe that he/she would say something that would betray his/her true identity.

I have found that I can change my outside appearance in what I wear and what I say, but it does nothing for my inside, it stays the same.

However, once I changed my inside, my outside followed on its own, and I am a new creature in God. I have cast off the old from the inside out.

So, yes for a little while anyone could pretend on the outside to be something that they are not, but it will catch up with them at some point, for their inside is still the same as it ever was.

I think they could be mistaken for Christian at times. I've met some very loving and accepting athiests. The oonly difference would be the personal realationship with Christ that probably ony 20% of the Christians have.

Firstly why would an athesist what to fake being a Christian? Secondly, how can you walk in the shoes of someone in relation to religion if you don't believe it?

Sure. All it takes is study on behavior. Scientists do it in immitating a gorilla, or monkey, a lion, or a tiger, a fish, a house cat, or a dog, etc. Anybody can fake anything if they know what to do, and how to behave to convince another.
There's a word called manipulation. This is it. I don't think that pretending to be something you're not is valuable, however, or wise, or good for anyone, not even yourself.

It could easily be faked but not effectively. I answered an atheist's question (on R&S) the other day. Although he professed his atheism, his statement lead me to realize he didn't even understand fundamental christian principles. Had he not professed his atheism, it still would have been obvious.
