The truth is constantreader that there are less than 2% of Catholic priests who have been guilty of sexual indescretions. Compare this with over 15% of Protestant clergy. This proves your theory wrong. It is even less than school teachers.
Perhaps you are reading the wrong things.

Well first, the Vatican did not authorize this. This is all Mahoney. It is not like priests are the only pedophiles, or even more likely to be pedophiles. It is just that when they do it, since we hold them to a higher set of standards, it is brought out into the national media.
Are these priests good people? No, they lost the way, they know this, and God will have his vengeance for the victims. Also, you have to realize, these people don't have to accept this money. They can still go through with the criminal courts and get them in Jail.
What will the Church do for the predators? They will most likely lose their Holy Orders and be excommunicated.
Anyway, I believe the Vatican is a good place, full of good people, just the Pope is misleading the Catholics. It's not their fault, he rigged the conclave. And yes, going back to the middle ages, is not intellectual suicide, but social suicide. I do not think, in any statement(that I've heard of) the Pope has said "We are taking the church back to the middle ages"...but hey, maybe this is just a way to prepare us for what is shortly going to come.
P.S. I'm not Catholic...

matthew fox is not renowned in my book, sorry.
the vatican is not paying out this - it's the diocese itself. the vatican does not condone what is happening.
i find it sad that people would rather take the money & settle instead of seeing the cases through & the priests convicted - it just makes me skeptical.
pediphilia is rampant and the Rcc is only a very small portion - look at nancy pelosi and nambla.....

Since in the original early Christian church they allowed priests to marry, since the Eastern Orthodox rite priests are allowed to marry, every generation of RCC priest will act out, willy-nilly until the Vatican accepts human nature. We're never going to get rid of human nature, priest or no priest, no matter what else they do in the way of settlement, explanations, psychiatry, law enforcement, intervention, shuffling parishes, etc., we can expect more of the same ad infinitum. For every priest who abides by the celibacy rule of his vocation, there are probably 100 who suffer, fall and confess, and another 400 who are better at concealing what they must do. Blame the old ruins in Rome and expect more expenses to follow.

a lot, if no longer maximum, of what the RCC (Roman Catholic Church) more advantageous into after the 4th and 5th centuries had to do with administration and monopoly. because it grew to advance into the "legitimate" faith of the Roman Empire it observed as its ordinary accountability to stamp out heresy (which skill any opposing view element) as with out put off as attainable with a view to confirm survival. in terms of the hot theologies that got here into being alongside with the RCC, many have origens in different "savior mythologies" from different cultures. The virgin beginning is one extensive occasion, as that's in reaction to Sumerian and different traditions. this is all approximately administration and oppression incredibly. to no longer say that the guidelines interior the Torah weren't all approximately administration and oppression additionally. maximum religions are.

I am a Catholic, but I say that the Church is now in a state of apostasy.
The priests now preach false doctrine, and the people have no charity - the Church is now in the grave (but to rise gloriously on the third day).
30 years ago, it was completely different, as priests taught the truth, were generally moral (some as nutty as a fruit-cakes - but in a good way, as from some of them, you couldn't get better comedy from a professional comedian), and Catholics were by and large moral people trying to do the right thing (although it has always had its bad apples, with some epoches of history being far worse or far better than others in that regard)
But if understood properly, it was always about grace, as sanctifying grace is a gift of God as is required upon death to go to heaven (if you don't have it at death, you go to hell) - when properly understood, the law is an application of this, not a substitute - for example, to be fruitful, the liturgy must flow from interior love and devotion and foster that - just going through the motions of liturgy and ritual will not save one, as if God simply wants us to jump through hoops to please Him - many older Catholics make that mistake, as you can see that in how many of them rattle off the Rosary mindlessly and mechanically, as if that were sufficient - if said properly, the Rosary fosters contemplation and union with God.

Sigh...
Apply this to teachers. Apply this to parents.
Matthew Fox is a nut case not a renowned theologian.
The problem was never with the Vatican. The problem is with American bishops who don't think they need to answer to the Vatican.
You should know American Catholics don't follow the same rules as Roman Catholics. Not true Roman Catholics anyway. We're granted dispensation because we're big babies.
JPII told them eons ago to clean up their acts but they wouldn't listen.

My thoughts? 500+ victims in ONE diocese.... 500+ VICTIMS OF SEX ABUSE AT THE HANDS OF PRIESTS.
Someone needs to go to PRISON, not paying out hush money. This does ignore the issue of the priests. It disgusts me. Money, of which the Vatican has MUCH of, will never return the innocense that those victims lost at the hands of the church.
