My cat is hurt, he's been like this for a few days. It's not serious enough for the vet but I would like to give him something to ease the pain. Would IBprophin or advil or even Tylenol work?

NO - Tylenol will kill your cat - it is very poisonous to them. The others can cause toxicity as well and you wouldn't know the proper dosage even if they did work. if your cat has that much pain, he should see a vet.

I have 14 cats and 5 dogs, so I know that some meds that you can safely give to dogs, will KILL A CAT! Under no circumstance should you give a cat acetominicin, ibuprofin, or any of the Nsaids. Even aspirin is "iffy", and you should call your vet for his recommendation. Aspirin is safe for dogs, but NOT for cats, under most circumstances. Vet advice is the best bet. I certainly wouldn't give any of my cats anything for pain that hadn't been specifically recommended by my vet. Good luck.........please make that phone call to your vet!

Only pain killer prescribed by a vet can be used on cats. If you cat is in pain then it really IS serious enough to go to the vet. If you do not think so then are you really a responsible pet owner? Do not under any circumstances give human pain killer to cats. Paracetamol causes liver damage and aspirin causes internal bleeding.

Never give a pet over-the-counter meds unless you have been instructed to do so, and given the appropriate dosage by your veterinarian. Many are toxic to cats, and many that are useful may be easily overdosed. Call the vet even if you do not believe it is serious enough to bring the cat in: My vets have always been good about instructing me in appropriate home care by phone, telling me what OTC meds are safe, and giving instructions for the dosage.

NO! NO! NO!
Let me rephrase it.....NO!

Acetaminophen: Acetaminophen is an ingredient found in several over-the-counter pain relievers (like Tylenol) that deforms and destroys red blood cells in cats, causing similar effects as onion toxicity. Acetaminophen in high doses can have these effects on many different species, but cats are particularly affected, and even the smallest dose can cause dramatic illness. Since acetaminophen is found in many drugs, and other drugs are also toxic to dogs and cats, you should never administer your pet any medication without first discussing it with your veterinarian.

Cats are tough! They don't need pain medication. Most of the time they don't get it after surgery! Cats heal and ease pain by purring.

If its not serious enough for the vet, then its not serious enough for pain relieving meds. Cats have a high pain tolerence for minor injury-and aceteminfin aka tylenol is fatal to cats.

As others have said, aspirin, can kill and ibuprophen, motrin ,advil ect will kill your cat. Cats hide pain very well so if your cat is showing pain it is serious and needs vet attention.
I am not one to push people to go to vets for things they can handle but you should go
