LOL Not a thing wrong with "cheating" and checking out your registery. You almost *have* to. If our mutual friend had done so, she would have discovered much sooner that certain stores had added gifts she *might* like to her registery. As it stands, she ended up with quite a bit mismatched stuff that she never signed up for! (Not to mention, the bug zapper my brother bought her. LOL!)
The women on here complaining about other people being excited about receiving gifts are the ones that most likely ignore the registery and buy that hideous punch bowl that they are so convinced everyone needs.
NOW who's being tacky?!?
*~*~*~*
Edited to add: Interesting how some people appear to have the attitude that this bride must not be marrying for love because she's excited about getting presents. Shoot, I wish I'd had a registry - it would have made the early days of my marriage a lot more easier on the wallet. Plus, I LOVE getting presents!
(Uh oh, that must mean I don't love my husband, huh? And someone better warn the kids I couldn't *possibly* love them because I love gifts and have no room in my heart for any other love nor brains in my head to differentiate between the importance of the two...)
Sorry folks, but the two aren't mutually exclusive!
So, the bride is excited about all the aspects of her wedding, including the gifts! I can guarantee ya that on her day, she'll only have eyes for her man.

When I got married we didn't have registries you could view on line (10 years ago) But you bet your bottom I would have looked! For practical reasons like adding to the registry, deleting from the registry if I had registered at more than one place etc. And I have to admit, I'd check because I'd be excited and curious! It definitely takes the surprise out of what I was getting as gifts, but I bet it's still just as exciting opening the gifts. People don't always buy off the registery, you don't know who bought what etc. And it's just plain exciting to open presents from people who care about you.
I'm the type that snoops for Christmas gifts too! I can't help it.

Oh Barbara is just a Bltch, dont let her get to you. She's just unhappy cuz she didnt get any gifts cuz no-one would waste money on a stuck up u-know-what like her.
Of course brides look at the registry! I edited mine alot. I changed my mind on a few items, and changed it, but I wanted to make sure that if someone was going to get something for me, that I deleted that off the registry too, just incase it wouldnt show up that someoen bought it at the store (and yes it DID happen that it didnt come off the stores registry) So if ya dont look at your registry or update it once in awhile, then ya shouldnt have one. lol
I dont blame you for being excited. I got married 2 weeks ago, and I feel sad that its all over, nothing to get excited about anymore. lol All my fun planning is over. But its awesome to know that its all over. lmao

I checked as well. At first I wasn't going to, but then I wanted to take some of the "extras" off our list and limit it to just necessities, but it was too late and someone had bought one of those extras (which have used!) I think it's normal to be curious. Also, if someone does buy something, there might be some else to go with it that you want to add. Like, for me, if someone gets you the espresso maker, you realize later maybe you want to add a milk-frothing pitcher :)
And you registered for the gifts, so it's not like you are ruining the surprise. You already have an idea of what you are getting!

When I got married - there wasnt an 'online' anything!! (1992)
However, when I had my baby in 2006, I was peeking at my registry all the time - mainly to update quantities and to change items that would coordinate with other things on the registry. So if I registered for stuff in green and blue - and I saw someone purchased one of the blue items, I'd take the green ones off - so I'd hopefully get a full set of blue.

It's not exactly cheating, is it, since they are not going to be a surprise, anyway... We didn't have a registry, but isn't that the purpose of one - that you choose certain gifts you want people to buy?
Hopefully you will eventually become just as excited at the possibility of the marriage as you are with the prospect of getting gifts!
Good luck to both of you!

my shower hasn't happened yet, so I'm still in the process of updating my registry all the time. i really don't understand how women say "i never asked for gifts, I'm happy just to marry this man blah blah". i live in NYC, and around here people don't bring presents to a wedding, they give money. i know many women find this tacky, but personally i find bringing gifts tacky. gifts are brought to the shower, money to the wedding. just how it goes here. and when it's close to my shower, you betcha I'll be looking at my registry. we picked them out, so where's the surprise? ugh, some people are such party poopers. ;-)

LOL! WOW this was not where I thought this thread title was going, I was all ready to be on the offensive!
I did, actually we were made to, our registry was cleaned out and my MIL called us saying that everything was purchased and we needed to select some more stuff, so from that point on we had to kind of police it to make sure that there was always a good selection for people to choose from as well as a nice range of prices.

It's acceptable since you are supposed to update the registry after a gift is given so you don't get doubles of things or to refill a price range (ex. everything under $100 got bought..you need to add more items under $100). Don't forget if you peek and see someone bought the toaster at target to take it off the other registries if you have doubles. Usually though, you save trouble by only registering for one toaster at the store whose toaster you liked best.
Every bride does it...lol just don't jump the gun and send the thank you's before you get the gift.
