Installing aftermarket rims and want to be sure the Low Pressure Light dosent drive me crazy on the dash. I looked into just removing the bulb but the gauge cluster is located so that I would have to pull out the whole dash. Is there a control box I can unplug? I have no interest in swapping out the TPS valve stems into the new rims since if one gets broken they cost $70 to replace. Not to mention the cost of breaking down the stock rims and tires just to get the sensors out.

If you are installing different rims and your vehicle is equipped with the TPMS system then sensors need to be installed in the new rims if the vehicle is going to be used on public roads.

TPMS sensors are federally mandated and just like the emissions systems it is not lawful to bypass or disable it. Not installing the sensors is a violation of the TREAD act and punishable by a hefty fine. Therefore, no shop that has a clue what it is doing is going to put the wheels on without sensors. But then again, lots of shops are quite clueless. I am reminded of the local (brand deleted) dealership service manager who a few months ago told me that they do winter wheel and tire packages all the time and just use normal valve stems, no sensors. He about turned green when I informed him of the requirements of the TREAD act.

If you do install the wheels without TPMS sensors then the low-pressure warning will be on constantly. It will not however, harm the system.

I have to agree tire pressure warning is a good thing. Fully loaded SUV traveling 70+ miles an hour with 7 people and gear should be warned when a tire is going low. Besides you are going to be text messaging eating a hamburger and opening a bottle of cola driving only slightly aware of that in front of you. Just put in the sensors get them reintroduced at Nissan if possible. Or break down the spare tire and place all four sensors inside the tire wheel assembly so they still show pressure. Just write on that tire so you don't forget 5 sensors are in it. Best way I can think of!
