It appears you have a few slow learners in your class today, Foot. LOL

I wonder if this might help... There are hundreds of man-made gods from all over the world, and I'm not talking about TV shows and money. These are ideas of super-beings existing, (some are men some are beasts,) and they have been talked about and worshiped for a long, long time; but, here's the catch, there are none of these god-ideas that had their beginning all over the world all in the same moment - not even in the same year or the same decade or year - not even your God.

Even the name of Jesus was unknown everywhere around the world except in the Middle East and the Mediterranean rim countries until the bible was gathered and made into a wide-spread book, first for priests and finally for distribution to commoners. It was intentionally carried to far away places by missionaries.... it didn't spread by god's power - it was carried by people.

What does that tell you, folks? The gods, not yours and not anyone elses, are not capable of spreading their own names and stories.... Do you think they might just be made up ideas of man, hmmm?.. powerless? Is your god made up, too... or could he possibly be?

What a good question!

I think when the commandment was made, people had several gods.... and that was the intent.

But our God is an all powerful and all knowing God. He knew that in todays society we would have more than one God. And if you think about it..... tv, computer, money, American Idol.... how many of us spend sundays at the mall or in front of the tv, or anywhere else.

You are right. We do tend to make up our own Gods to worship. And possibly you are even right that we made up the God to worship....

in either case, I would still worship the God than not worship at all....

Do you not see the point? numerous things are made into gods, TV gets made into a god, money is made into a god, Michael Moore is worshipped as a high and mighty god who is never wrong by those who are sadly dumb enough to believe that you can actually get a gun from inside of a Bank itself (when the intellegent people like me know that Banks don't allow you to carry a Gun inside unless authorized to do so).

Kim Jong-Il is worshipped as a god in the atheist state of North Korea.

Kim Jong-Il is a false god, Michael Moore is a false god.

Christians and Jews are told not to worship false gods but only the true God is to be worshipped.

In Ancient Israel, the Prophet Elijah had himself and the prophets of the false god Baal come up a Mountain in a battle of Yahweh (Jehovah) God vs. Baal

No one was to set fire to a Sacrifice but the prophets of Baal were to call on Baal to strike the sacrifice they offered to Baal (they did so but Baal didn't do the striking), then Elijah called on Yahweh to strike the offering to him with Lightning and Yahweh did so and this showed loads of Israelites who was the true God.

Men do create god's

They worship money
They worship famous people
They worship power

I'm not sure what kind of irony you are wanting us to look at.

All I see in this instance is the ignorance of many people who do put these things before God.......The one and only God

According to the Bible, there are other gods:

The ancient Hebrews were not originally monotheists, but henotheists. They believed that other gods existed but only worshiped one.

Man-made things can become Gods to people. Money being the most visible of these.

So no I do not see the irony here.

There are no other Gods, but there are idols or "false gods." Have you ever seen someone that was just INSANE about a game or a TV show. They would drop anything JUST to see it. It completely rules them. They turn this thing into a God. They give it all of their time and thought. That's the point.

When our God tells us not to worship other Gods, he doesn't mean other men in the sky etc. He means not to create of own Gods to worship. Such as do not worship money or clothing

I, for one, love the irony.

There are several bible verses referring to the "other gods" yet there supposedly are no other gods.
