Leaning a plasma (you don't give size) against the wall, assuming there is enough room behind it for air circulation and wiring, is NOT a problem. However, most plasmas come with some sort of straps or wires to secure the set, so it doesn't tip over - use them!

I think the biggest harm would come from it falling over.

consult your manual, this was problematic at first but see the manufactures recommended placement. But the danger of it falling is pretty substantial.
