Imperialism was started because of the greed and hunger for power shown in every man in history
every man with support of masses wanted it all to himself and that also led the downfall of Imperialism in Europe

The same thing that caused the formation of Empires by the Sumerians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Egyptians, Chinese, Maya, Aztecs, Persians, Greeks, Romans, Turks, and so fort: human nature and contact with militarily weaker cultures.
The reasons the empires of the european powers were so far-flung were technological. Had the means to reach the rest of the globe first been acquired in some other region, it would have become the seat of empires.
