That is a good question.
Many people, including believers like you and I, become defensive because we see so much fundie hate directed at us and others.

We do not deny that they have a spiritual experience. Why, however, do you think that they are not deluded in being able to do so? The who-are-you-to-judge line is quite funny. Theists are far and away the most judgmental people on the planet. Atheists do not judge them, we simply understand them for what they are.

Because there is a logical, scientific explanation to everything.
I've seen something that could have easily been described as a flying saucer, but then I took out my binoculars and realized it was a low flying military helicopter. These people would just ASSUME right away that the thing I saw was a flying saucer. They aren't necessarily crazy, they just don't take an in depth approach to answering a question. It is as simple as that.
Some are crazy, some just misguided.
Great question, thanks!

You do have a point, I am a christian however I think at one time or another we all really wonder what is beyond this life. I don't believe in judging other peoples beliefs, my son is a atheist and I believe if he wants to change his views he will I will not preach to him even if it says we should in the Bible. I love my children regardless.

Considering the well known history of Christianity, and seeing the vacant look in the eyes of those who have experienced a "revelation" it's NOT normal.
Who are you to judge?

I don't automatically think someone is WRONG if they say they have a religious experience. I think their methods of defining it are just different than mine. I guess I feel that if someone hears a song on the radio that was their grandpa's favorite song and they are thinking of him at that moment - some could say that is religious or angels - I just say that if it happened to me, I would think it was coincidence. I think it's just a tendancy to attribute things to reality and solid, concrete evidence than to attribute it to God or religion. It's not that they are WRONG, it's that their methods of interpretation are much different than mine. I mean honestly, if you believe something so much, and with all of your heart - it's at least true to you if nothing else.

I'm sure they did have such experiences as they claim, but that doesn't mean the cause of their experience is what they claim it was.
Experience itself means little. It's all just synaptic activity, with one cause or another.
If I claimed I talk to the boogie man every morning, why would you doubt the authenticity of my experience? Because it is absurd, that's why.

Are you agnostic towards unicorns? Mermaids? Do you seriously entertain the thought that dragons are real?
Why should religion get judged by a different standard?

i have decided NOT to belive on THE basic fact that the bible is a STORY.
...think of it like this we all have stories to tell people well it plays out like this. "bill said hi to steve" = "dude ,bill is high"
not that extream but get my point? i say one thing you hear another, but repeat something diffrent then what you herd and that i said.
that and the basic fact that its all bullshit
