Pit Bulls are a naturally well muscled breed so I have found that they tend to do better on higher protein and fat formulas to maintain that muscle. Therefore, any of the grain free (Innova EVO, Orijen, Solid Gold Barking at the Moon, Timberwolf Organics Wild and Natural, Nature's Variety Prairie Raw Instinct, etc.) OR high quality premium foods (Eagle Pack Holistic, Canidae, etc.) should be the ideal choice.

Avoid junk like Pedigree, Kibbles n' Bits, Science Diet, Ol'Roy, etc.

Best of luck in making the choice!

I would recommend a high quality food such as Canidae, Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul, Flint River Ranch, Merrick, Timberwolf Organics, Wellness and Eagle Pack. I would recommend you stay away from brands such as Science Diet, Purina, Eukanuba, Iams, Pedigree, Ol' Roy, etc. because those brands have a ton of fillers and aren't good for your dog no matter how good they're advertised.

Every dog is different. Do some research on dog food ingredients and then choose a good food. You don't have to buy the MOST expensive one... I have a female pit/lab mix and we feed her Nutro Natural Choice... I'm very happy with it. It's a good quality food, it's not the aboslute best, but it's good.

I recommend Innova EVO - expensive but well worth it. My dog loves it (I love to tell her she's a mighty dog because she's eating buffalo), it has no grain in it, and it was rated highly on Dog Food Analysis. Read up a little bit on all the different kinds of food, and maybe even consider feeding raw - it's worth looking into at the least.

Good luck!

Look for brands of dog food with high protein in them. Also look on the ingredients list . Make sure the first item ( which is supposidly the main ingrediant ) is meat protein & not something else. Also look for some cheap meat from the butchers for occasional treats. There's no need to cook it they prefer it raw . Cooking the meat also breaks down the nutrients and makes the bones brittle and dangerous.

you want to look for a food that the first ingredient is a meat like chicken....NOT corn or anything corn meal...you also want to make sure that they put as much protien in the food as possible and not the min amount. Science diet is really good and iams is too. I would talk to you vet though and see what they think but do NOT use kibbles and bits OR beneful..its like feeding your dog twinkies and its just fat..nothing healthy at all..even if it says made with veggies..they can put in one carrot and say its healthy..so just read the ingredients

I give two thumbs down on science diet. A horrible dog food filled with byproducts and fillers. Same with Iams, pedigree, purina and other popular brands that are in walmart, or petsmart.

I love cannidae, chicken soup, wellness, innova, natural balance, and avo-derm.
