The Bible's First Commandment is usually translated as 'I am the Lord Thy God. Thou shalt have no false gods before me, for I am a jealous God.' There is no commandment there to have a true God ('I am the Lord Thy God' and 'for I am a jealous God' are statements, not commandments). But 'Thou shalt have no false gods before me' is clearly a commandment, and seemingly the only way to be sure not to have any false gods is not to have any gods - that is, to be a godless atheist. As some sort of agnostic myself, I may well not be godless enough, but then as an agnostic I don't trust Biblical Commandments (hey, for all I know, they could be Satanic attempts to turn agnostics like me into atheists!). But Christians and Jews presumably ought to take their own First Commandment more seriously than I do. So wouldn't they be 'safer' becoming atheists? And if not, why not? And why couldn't 'God' have been less perversely ambiguous when giving Moses His First Commandment on Mount Sinai?

It is translated as "Thou shalt have no other God before me ~ I am the one and only God".
That does NOT mean atheism it OK.
When Moses got the 10 commandments ~ his people were worshiping a false god made of gold and sinning ~ at saadam and gamora.

What is ambigious in the statement 'I am the Lord Thy God' or 'I am the Lord Your God'? Just like the Queen of England saying 'I am your Queen of England'.

Man was already worshipping idols, their false Gods. So God added 'Thou shalt have no false Gods before me'. That to me is very specific.

It is not that First Commandment that lets me be an Atheist, but it is the good old U.S. Constitution that lets me be one.

The First Ammendment of the USC says: "People of America are free to practice any religion or no religion at all" - I have chosen to be an Atheist.

I figured it is easier to live that way. All I have to do is to follow the rest of what the Constitution says and just live for as long as possible.

Being that this whole argument is a circular argument in which the definition of the answer you are fishing for is already in the question itself, I'd have to say no. The first commandment does not mean you should be an atheist. If you don't believe in the commandments, than all the power to you, but this is a really weak argument in the way you present it.

at the start, we did no longer take in basic terms those 10 commandments for the Bible. All 5 books of the regulation, with their commandments are in the Bible. 2nd, the completed factor touching directly to the hot testomony overriding the previous is a little extra complicated than that and would take extra clarification, so I won't bypass into that with you. yet, do to the certainty that some issues HAVE replaced, i'm no longer probably particular the place I stand on the dying penalty; yet I lean in the direction of, and one would desire to argue.... would we be breaking the commandment? No. the version between homicide (which this command is incredibly speaking approximately in case you learn the Hebrew) and killing is like that of 1st degree homicide and manslaughter or self-protection. The Bible provides different instructions with regard to the latter, which you will learn into. in the OT, between the 1st instructions God ever gave (to Noah) replaced into that we would desire to consistently no longer homicide, and everyone who murdered would be positioned to dying. in the NT, Paul mentioned that our leaders "do no longer undergo the sword in ineffective". subsequently, having no longer broken the command approximately homicide, yet rather fulfilled the only touching directly to the dying penalty, we can't have "set ourselves for hell". yet this latter fact intrigues me extra, and is entwined with our difficulty. ALL wrongs--no longer in basic terms homicide--which includes lieing (which we've all executed), taking what isn't ours (which maximum individuals have executed), and hating (it is seen homicide in our hearts), have set us excited by hell. Hell, and the separation from God in this existence and the subsequent is the "dying penalty" for all of our wrongs. yet mutually because it is mandatory (for what imperfect guy or woman can enter a acceptable heaven and commune with a acceptable God?), God would not satisfaction to punish us. So He died on the go and rose back to pay for our wrongs and forgive us. If we settle for this present, we are forgiven, and set unfastened--we don't would desire to stand our penalty, yet rather stay this existence and the subsequent with Him. i will pray for you on your learn; which you will come, to no longer what some guy or woman needs you to believe, however the certainty. I pray you stumble on the certainty. And remember on your learn, "Line upon line, theory upon theory. the completed counsel of God's be conscious." (Isaiah 28:10; Acts 20:27)

Please. Argue intelligently against religion. Not everyone holds the belief that there is no God. I do, but that's not the point. You're reducing yourself to the level of people who believe that "deep down, atheists know God exists".

People can truly twist words to mean whatever they want, it appears. God wants you to have no other gods before him. That means don't let anything be more important in your life than the Lord your God, the Great I Am.

Looking for an argument, huh? You are just hunting excuses.
You know the answer, so you might as well give in to the Lord, Jesus Christ and quit trying to find reasons not to.

Atheism falls under the catagory of antichrists because they choose not to believe......They are Anit Christ! Why don't we remeber the fact that we all have free will the choice to do or not to do!

Therefore if you are antichrist there isn't any gods....... ; p

Your complete and total lack of interpretational logic is truly breath-taking. I don't even have to read beyond the first sentence to dismiss this in it's entirety.
