Zinfandel Burgers

These burgers are great for a summer barbecue!

2 pounds lowfat hamburger
1/4 cup Zinfandel
(Save rest of bottle to drink with meal) 1/4 cup minced fresh basil
1/4 cup minced red onion
1/4 cup Italian bread crumbs
8 sundried tomatoes, drained and chopped
2 teaspoons garlic salt
Canola spray for spraying on grill rack
6 large seeded hamburger buns
2/3 cup mayonnaise
6 slices Monterey jack cheese
2 tablespoons prepared basil pesto
red leaf lettuce leaves
6 tomato slices
6 thin red onion rings
8 fresh wet basil sprigs for adding to fire

1. Prepare grill for cooking.
2. In a medium bowl combine the following: hamburger, Zinfandel, minced basil, minced onion, bread crumbs, sundried tomatoes, and garlic salt. 3. Divide the hamburger into 6 portions and shape into round patties.
4. Spray the grill with canola oil.
5. Toss the basil sprigs onto the coals.
6. Grill hamburger patties until done (5 to 8 minutes approximately on each side).
7. During the last minute of cooking top each hamburger with a slice of cheese.
8. Mix mayonnaise and basil pesto and spread some of this mixture onto each of the toasted hamburger buns.
9. Assemble lettuce, hamburger, tomato slice and onion slices onto each bun.

This will make 6 servings.

1 lb ground turkey meat
1 packet Liption Onion soup mix
1 tsp A-1 steak sauce
1 egg

Combine mixture with hands and form into 4-6 hamburger patties. Place in the fridge for about 30 minutes to firm up. Grill

These are low-fat because of the turkey but still flavorful due to the onion mix

Make patties, but try not to handle too much...makes it less juicy. Sprinkle over top of each patty a small amount of Lawry's Seasoned Salt, garlic powder and Accent. I make mine about 1/2 - 3/4 inch thick and put them on the George Forman for about 5 minutes. Delicious!! And the aroma while they cook is Fab!

Lipton's onion soup mix, salt and pepper, garlic and a shot of Worcestershire sauce. Top with some shredded sharp cheddar cheese before they come off the grill so they are all ooey-gooey! MMM, sounds like a plan for dinner!

For every pound of ground beef, use 1 egg and 1 cup of bread crumbs, chop up some onion or use the French's fried onions crumbled, a bit of garlic powder( opt.). Form into patties and grill.

My best burger is made with ground breast of turkey. I smother it with McCormicks spicy salt free seasoning and grill it until both sides are seared.

I like this burger on a whole grain pita with sliced tomatoes and a big blob of hummus. Sweet potato fries go nicely as a side.

My personal favorite is to take a pouch of liptons onion soup mix and a touch of water and mix it in the ground meat and pat them out myself. Then do them up on the grill.
